Forth Bridge TSR? 02/08/2011 at 17:21 #18941

Not sure if this is related to the new system files, but I didnt notice it before.....

When running Edinburgh, there now seems to be a 10mph speed restriction on the Forth Bridge. Causes mayhem in the morning peak!

(BTW there were no TSR's reported at startup - running with 2006 TT v1.3, ARS Off, TORR On, AHB None).

(Moderators - Feel free to move this post if you feel it should go elsewhere.......:)

Cheers

I have a saved game from Saturday/Sunday and just checked and I have a Class2 going over the Bridge at 50mph

I have the new system files.

ARS on but disabled.

File available if required.

Have you happened to notice a particular pattern to this - such as it only seeming to happen with certain classes of train or is literally every train proceeding at 10mph over the bridge? Also, is it in a particular direction or does it happen both ways?

Just started a new game and everything seems OK now - I'm putting it down to TSR's that I didnt see at the beginning of that game (i.e. user error!)

One thing I did note was that only the passenger trains seemed to be stuck at 10mph. The class 7's were running at 20mph. Is it possible that where there are differential line speeds, TSR's are not being applied to ALL the possible speed limits on a particular section of track? Possibly one for the developers to look into maybe?

Cheers

Differential linespeeds are relatively common on the railway as a whole, and are replicated in SimSig, but I have never seen one where the freight is allowed to go faster than the passenger.

Interesting question this. The code that does the TSRs I copied from another Sim and just edited as appropriate and I'm not totally sure how it actually works. Save that it creates a random speed between a given range in 5 mph steps but there is nothing to indicate whether this is a generic speed for both or not- I assumed it was for both!

However, if what you report is correct then it must be the same for all other TSRs when created. That is if a freight behaved that way vis-a-vis a passenger over the Forth Bridge then the same must be the case at any other TSR that is created in any of my Sims (and presumably others as it's a copy).

Anyway it's slightly academic as we have a new way of coding these things which I'm working through with all my Sims.

If it's nothing to do with the TSR (because there was none) then I can't explain.
