hi all
currently in the process of writing a pair of TTS for the southern sims, 1993 era. got all the info i need and have almost finished them. i wanted to add some departmentals and if possible some deicer/sandite trains. i assume a class 33 and some ballast wagons would do for a departmental. anyone got any info on sandite/ deicer/ other stuff for me to put in. im looking specifically for consists or unit types.

cheers

During the 1970s & 1980s the Southern Region had 3 2-car de-icing units formed from the motor coaches from 2-HAL & 4-LAV units numbered 001, 002 & 003. I think I've got a photo of one of these taken in 1986 at Wimbledon Park T&RSMD. Further to this there were another 10 departmental de-icing sets numbered 011 - 020 which were the motor coaches from 4-SUBs. Not sure how long they lasted in service. If you want to add some other departmental workings there's always the Southern Region General Managers saloon which was hauled around by a Cl.33/1 or Cl.73. Cl.73s were also employed on departmental trains as well as Cl.33s.
Another thing you may want to consider if you haven't already done so is the highly photographed Channel Tunnel test train, which comprised of former Cl.33/1 number 33115 which sat on experiemntal high speed bogies & shoe gear, vehicle re-numbered to 83301 also coupled to departmental research 4-TC number 8007. The photo I'm looking at of the formation is being hauled by 73205.
Most of the departmental unit work on the former Southern Region tended to operate out of Strawberry Hill T&RSMD. Hope this helps.

Happy to help, are you able to say what Southern sim these timetables are for? As the kind of departmental workings would vary from area to area. Happy to jelp.
