Do all the 323s for the Longbridge and Redditch services come ECS in a morning or do some stable at Longbridge over night?

Noel is correct in his statement, however its subject to what year you are specifically talking about. In the 1995-1996 timetable ECS also comes from Tyseley Sdgs in the shape of various diesel units. However there are one or two ECS movemnts of loco hauled stock from Etches Park CS which then start at New Street. The cross city units originate from Soho Depot when the cross city line was electrified, but when the cross city services were in the hands of 1st generation DMUs they came from Tyseley Sdgs.

Hi all, I can concur with most of the previous comments. I worked at New St 1989-2001 and as far as Cross City units go, IIRC before electrification DMUs on the Xcity ran ECS to and from Tyseley. After electrification we used to platform stable some 323s overnight for start of service, the rest going to and coming from Soho depot.

In a more in depth view of ECS workings in & around New Street/Saltley really depends on what era you are talking about. In the 1970s there were carriage sidings at Vauxhall which lay i9n between the lines to Birmingham International & the Camp Hill lines. These primarily held loco hauled stock for New Street. Having said that there are some trains that run ECS from Nottingham to Tyseley & are booked to run via New Street. All WCML loco hauled passenger trains ran from Oxley CS(Wolverhampton), some of which ran via the Up Stour & others via the Up Grand Junction lines through Bescot with some running via Perry Barr triangle & Soho South Junction. In the 1995-1996 timetable there are no units stabled overnight at Longbridge or anywhere else, but there is one part of the timetable in the afternoon prior to the evening peak where there are 3 ECS movements from Soho Depot to Longbridge. 2 of the trains go into the reversing siding at Longbridge & the other sits at Barnt Green(reversing) in P4. Even more surprising is the fact that one of these units is a 1st generation EMU in the shape of a 3 car Cl.308 unit. There are only one or two of these in the whiole timetable, all the others being Cl.323s. Nowadays there are alot of ECS movements between the depot at Barton Under Needwood & New Street via Saltley. Birmingham Snow Hill has quite a number of ECS moves from Tyseley Sdgs which Saltley PSB has to deal with.

Right fair do's, that's been covered earlier in this thread. I'm more into the 1980s, 1990s & 1970s as opposed to today. However each to their own.
