Train 2M41 Authority to Move? 26/10/2011 at 19:39 #22107

Hi all, have checked through past Pboro posts but can't find any mention of this problem on Summer 2004 TT. 2K29 arrives 1613 P3. As it was quite early I called it in behind 2P64, which leaves on time. 2K29 forms 2M41 due out 1620. At departure time I don't get TRTS but driver calls for authority to move. I'm unable to set route from sig 445 to 473. When he calls again I tell him to proceed but now get message 'out of valid track' after the train has moved very slightly.
Has the fact that I brought it behind 2P64 caused the problem? TT runs perfectly until then. I shall beat myself mercilessly if I've overlooked something basic but, as usual, all suggestions gratefully received.

Will test this now but whilst I do... if you've authorised 2M41 to move but the points are not in the correct position for the move then he will stop short of the points and show out of valid track.

Apologies, should have added that when trying to set route from 445 to 473 also get message 'subroute locked in opposite direction' with no other traffic in immediate area.

Sounds like the outgoing service is not completely within the station TC (not got sim available), try reversing it and see if it moves back and then sorts itself out.
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Tested and solved. 2P28 is 2 x Class 365s (so 8-cars) and 2K29 is probably either 2 x Class 153s (so 2-cars) or 1 x Class 156 (2 cars). Signalling 2K29 in behind 2P64 normally results in it occupying the track circuit beyond Signal 445 and hence as expected it wouldn't get TRTS and would call in requesting authority to proceed. Changed 2P28 to Near end stop and tested again and both fit fine this time.

As expected, due to 2M41 occupying the overlap.

Of note though is that on all the times I've been to Peterborough before, I've never seen two trains like this occupying the same platform...although I did once see a photo taken by someone else when the signaller/signalman once signalled an 8/365 into Platform 2 which was already occupied by, I think, a 153

Many thanks for the replies both. Seems I was trying to be too clever in putting 2K29 in behind what I must have forgotten was an 8-car service. Guess I won't apply for a job as a 'real-life signaller, lol! Thanks again.

It's not uncommon, or at least it didn't used to be uncommon, to have both a FCC and a Spalding train in either 2 or 3. I don't think I've ever seen two trains together in either 4 or 5.

clive is right you can have a 8 car FCC and a 2car spalding train in P2 or 3 at peterborough and even though its my local station ive only seen ONE time where we had two trains in P5 170 turbostar north end had to wait for the next 170 to couple up before continuing to Birmingham New Street

Thanks for all the comments guys. I don't think I'll jump in and do that move again, not unless the FCC is only a 4-car, just to make sure.

Why ever not... I've seen it done (in fact I've done it myself  ) and at Waterloo, when the NX panel was in the 1936 'box structure, the panel could do it for you all by itself!

Real signallers have done much worse than overfilling a platform.
