"I'm delighted to offer you the opportunity to have a play on Exeter West Box (again!) this year.

As this is an unofficial meet it is not endorsed by Simsig or it's developers, so please don't expect the visit to revolve around Simsig, it's mainly so we can get to see inside the 'box'.

Last year's meet was a success, and I look forward to going and having another play on this box."

Ignore the first entry I put in (just "Danny252"- I merely glanced at my calendar and saw something written on the weekend of 26th/27th March, and didn't actually read the fact it said "Simsig W'field" until after I'd assumed I was busy all weekend... Typical!

I am not in England on these dates. The reds at me are a joke, I am not going to an Exeter West Box meet in 2011 no matter which date it is.

To those who've completed the Market Research (he he): Thank you. I've come to the conclusion that going to Crewe in August is a good idea as it doesn't clash with other Simsig Meets in March. July and November. The date for the visit is
Saturday, 27th August at 11am. Crewe Heritage Centre

Albert: I apologize: It's difficult to pick dates that suit everybody - especially with three SimSig meets a year, therefore I opted for dates close to or on Bank Holidays.

I'll leave this until after Wakefield and London.

Cheers.

My plans for this year haven't got as far ahead as August yet, but I'm certainly keen to come along if possible and have noted this in my diary. Really enjoyed myself last year.

Sorry folks, I've come to realise I"m in Manchester on the 27th. Can people do the 28th?
This coming Saturday night I'll post up an event on the Simsig Facebook page, and I'll create a spreadsheet on Google Docs.

IMHO, the reply form is missing a skill level for people like me; something like "Brick".

Brick : Likes the idea, wants to learn, happy to observe; but in terms of existing skills is "Thick as two short planks stuck together with stupid glue". Could possibly open the door to a signal box unsupervised, without injuring self; but not to be trusted with anything more complex.

But please, don't change it on my account; I don't know if I can make it yet.

What time are we planning to arrive? I'll be coming from Malvern, as last year.

I'm quite tempted to come along - what actually happens at this meet? I only ask as Sunday trains are practically useless and require a hefty investment of time so I could do with an idea of how long the day is/what can be expected before committing.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

A visit to the Crewe Heritage Centre, specifically the preserved EW Box (though there are Crewe North Jn and "A Box" preserved on site as well). You'll get the chance to both watch the operators working the simulation and have the principles of mechanical signalling explained, and then get to work the frame yourselves, and get to be real WR Signalmen as Kings thunder past (well, you can pretend that the Sunday Pendolino drag to Holyhead is a proper loco-hauled train...)

(I have "sadly" been conned into going out for a curry with some friends I've not met in a while that Sunday, so won't be there operating).

I've put myself down, sounds interesting and I can work around the daft train times I'm sure.

Would love to have done this, but work will be getting in the way. Was planning a visit to the box sometime in the very near future anyway.

I probably won't make it quite that early. Don't hang around, I know the way now so I'll join you in the box.
