I occupied the track circuit TYM1 on the Exeter Sim and it came up with the 4 asterix (****) even though there was no train. Is this a bug? "Signalman Exeter" Log in to reply |

For the most part TD stepping is a function of a TC becoming occupied, it matters not how or why the TC became occupied. Hmm just thought does a TCF cause a berth step? Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

If the TCF occurs in a trigger TC for an empty berth, depending on the berth stepping conditions, that berth could step the blank TD forward.

Hmm just thought does a TCF cause a berth step?If there is a description in one berth with the track circuit occupied for any reason, the signal applying to that berth is off and the next track circuit becomes occupied then the system will think there is a train there and the TD will step. I wanted to flag a related situation I have just encountered. Track Circuit TUM154 on the Up Main near Bridgwater has failed, and the asterixes have been inserted. However, further to this, I have received a 'Non-described train sent to fringe signalbox!' message and consequently been docked 10 points in the 'Other Points Lost' column! If the TD is in a berth that can be seen at an adjacent box then you should get the non described train sent to external box message - after all, the signalman at that box will be straight on the phone to ask you "What train is that at signal x?" as he will conclude it is a train until told otherwise.

As a signaller, its your job to interpose the correct TD in place of the ****. It should be part and parcel of allowing the train to PSAD because of the TC failure!

SimSig penalises you for sending an undescribed train. It's just unfortunate that some failures recreate that scenario. Just like a failed track circuit over a level crossing may result in a points deduction for delaying road users. Not your fault but you get a penalty regardless, so tough luck. Personally, I haven't pressed the F5 button on a sim in years so don't really worry about scores. Planotransitophobic! Log in to reply |

Thanks for the responses. You're right sloppyjag, in that it's one of those unfortunate circumstances and the scores don't really matter. alan_s, to clarify, no train has actually passed in this situation and trying to interpose results in a 'Cannot interpose into external berth' message. Most people paying attention to the score on a regular basis probably went out of the window along with the old paged layout. For those that do not remember, next to the time on the bottom left of the paged layout used to be the score, which if clicked brings up the analysis. The score is not displayed in scrolly unless you actually go looking for it. Perhaps an idea for an update to the core code some time, would be to find a way to re-introduce this sort of thing to the scrolly layout? Log in to reply |
