sorry think i posted this in the wrong section hiya with life being so fast and all that my one wish is this this web site is fantastic and much better than the last barr one thing?? the old forum had "new" on each main topic section for new messages. with this one we have to go through each sub title to hunt them out? i know we have the last message posted but it`ll be great if we could bring back the new heading. just a thought yours paul Log in to reply |

Paul If you are logged in, when you click on the Search menu at the top of the page it gives an option to "Show latest posts" in the drop-down. Selecting that gives you a forum view ordered so the topic with the most recent post is at the top. It only goes back 24 hours, but it will help a little with what you want. However, I do agree with you; it would be nice to be able to pick out new or unread messages. There is an easier way...If you are logged in, check out the icon against each forum section. If the center of the icon is green then there is a post in that section you haven't read. When you open the section, the subheadings have the same icons. Any subsections that contain an unread post will also have an icon with a green centre. It's quite easy to go through and look at each section and once you've seen the post, the centre of the icon turns grey. Log in to reply |

Having followed Lardybiker's tip, I can now pick up unread messages. However, I have difficulty in picking out icons with the green background as compared with the normal grey background. Are we constrained by the template as to what colour/shape/size of icons we use or could anything be set up to give greater or different emphasis to topics containing unread postings? If people are happy then I'll put them into the appropriate place. Without looking at the template/skin I don't know if the size can be changed. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

Nicholas Thanks for the 15 seconds of work! I can't speak for anyone else, but it would certainly help me. JG “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

Haven't fathomed what all of the icons mean, but there are 4 shown which are various varieties of "new". If I knew what they meant, I'd maybe ask if they should all be modified just to help me along.

I think New Active just means there are a lot of postings, maybe also considers the frequency. New Sticky will be just New on a Sticky post and New Locked must mean a new post on a locked topic- which seems an contradiction! Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Here's another one. In this case for a topic with LOTS of activity (Active according to the code at the foot of the page - Hot according to the name given by Agora) This one took a bit more than 15 seconds though! Remember to click on it to see full size. Regards, NR Log in to reply |

Can you use the same colour for the text in all the 3 icons? And would it be possible to change the favicon? Log in to reply |

Sorry Nicholas, I have mixed two different things. The favicon is the little icon that appears near the url and in the bookmarks. See the page on wikipedia: Favicon At present the standard supplied with Joomla! is used (so that I got the same favicon for every site that use Joomla!) Log in to reply |

Really crappy Favicon.ico I just cut out a piece of the SimSig Logo and stuffed it into 16x16. Zipped File It's zipped since the site won't allow ICO files Here's a JPG version of the same Click it to see it in "proper" size (it looks horrible this big). Admins, if you want to test this it should probably (renamed) go in http://www.SimSig.co.uk/templates/lavinyav6/favicon.ico Regards, NR Log in to reply |

A really simple noavatar image. As I've been able to gather from the agora installer, there's two copies of the "noavatar" image, one in GIF and one in JPG. I've pulled part of the logo (with a minimal retouch in the JPG version) and cut it down to size. I like to JPG version better but I've really no idea which gets used or if both are, how the site decides where or when to use each. Regards, NR P.D. I'm most willing to hear suggestions for something a bit more creative than these :=D Log in to reply |
