Where area boundaries are marked on layouts by vertical green lines, why do the arrows point towards the green lines and not away from them??

For example, on the Bristol layout we see BRISTOL ►|◄ FILTON. Considering that here, Bristol is to the left and Filton is to the right, shouldn't it be marked as ◄ BRISTOL | FILTON ►, or even BRISTOL ◄ | ► FILTON? I find this rather confusing.

The arrows are there to indicate that (for example) the Bristol area goes as far as the line.

I've never really had a problem with the boundaries, however 'on the flipside' it has always had me wondering if the lines could be expanded in width slightly. Say it's 1-pixel wide now, then perhaps make them 2- or 3-pixels wide.

Is it shown like this in SimSig because that's the way it is on real-life (IECC) panels?

No, because in an IECC they would be separate computers.

And Postal's explanation is correct

Actually, some do but it's rare admittedly. But they do point towards the lines, so SimSig is correct. I don't have any relevant IECC photos to hand but this Westcad photo shows the Signal Group Replacement boundaries marked the same way:

As Barry points out (well, at least I think that's what is meant), arrows in this orientation are common in other industries. Take a building plan - which way do the arrows point on a measurement, indicating the area [length] of measurement?

Having said that, the SSI boundary marks on the Ely part of Cambridge panel point away from the line.

But I don't think it matters. I prefer the arrow notation as is because I'm used to it, and because it's not a "Bristol this way" arrow but a "Bristol runs up to here" arrow.
