O wait! Wasn’t there a station somewhere that was recently (in the last six months) renamed in honour of Nelson Mandela? I want to think it’s in the UK but I’m probably wrong.

The city is named after a mythical nymph so not a real person I'm afraid. The other station is Peloponese named after the Isthmus. There is a Victoria on the metro, but none of the other stations look like they are named after people. The main station in Rome is Termini (named after the baths [thermae] which gave us Terminus. That leaves the following question unanswered, no attempts yet so we obviously don'y have any turntable fanatics.  3. Turntables. a) Where was there a double track turntable carrying a frequent passenger service? This line is fully signalled, but it is not a "normal" railway This line is still open, but the turntable has been removed b) Where on a national rail network is there a turntable with a regular passenger service across it? It was installed in 1974 and was there when I visited in the late 1980's, but has since been removed, probably 2002 looking at the last photo. The offical reason was oil getting into the river, but I suspect it wasn't practical as the line currently operates a 3 minute peak timetable. You can get the full Schwebebahn experience at Einmal in Lebel durch Wuppertal Schweben (Once in you life swing through Wuppertal). Only one to go. Thanks to everybody who took part. The only one you didn't get was 3a) which was Lichterhain an der Bergbahn, near Erfurt. This is an interesting line with a funicular and a short line at the top of the funicular to Cursdorf. The line is operated with converted first generation Berlin S-Bahn stock, hence the unusual 600V DC electrification. The line operates a half hourly service every day. The full list of answers is: 1. Just to say thank / kudos / etc for doing this. :cheer: Something different to see (think first time it's been done on here on this forum (at least as far as I'm aware) and was good fun to work the brain a bit, and challenge a few others (non-SimSiggers) off forum too.
