Been playing Simsig for some time now without any obvious difficulties, but not sure if I'm getting the fullest from it. For example, there are a few trackside symbols that I cannot fathom their function. One is the blue coloured A with an open or sometimes closed circle nearby. Another is the while arrow at various locations always pointing in the direction of train travel. Is there somewhere on the site that explains these functions? Slightly off topic and playing Gloucester modern, a freight booked to run into Bromsgrove UGL (in this case 6M04) arrives and shortly after I get TRTS signal. However, if I set the route back onto the main line using signal 171, this signal stays red despite the route being set successfully. Then get driver phoning to say sitting at red signal. I've used the calling on feature to get round this, but I think this is not really permitted and affects the score. Any help would be appreciated. Log in to reply |

Have you tried looking at the help files provided with the simulations? Most of the information in those help pages is also available on the Wiki, in particular the Track and Signal display page will answer your questions. Simulation specific points are included in the manuals, eg the 3 minute timer on the Lickey signals is mentioned in the Gloucester manual. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Hello, The blue coloured 'A' is an auto button you can press on (so it filles the circle) that will keep the route beyond it set after a train passes through, saving you from having to continuously reset the route for trains on a common routing. While useful for when you get busy, you have to be careful that the odd train here and there doesn't require a different diverging route from that signal, otherwise the driver will stop at the signal and call in advising you have the wrong route set for him. The white triangles are usually there for setting shunt routes or call on routes, for example light locos shunting around and reversing at particular points rather than carrying on down the line. Someone else will probably have to go into more detail if you require it, or take a look at the documentation in the wiki. On the Gloucester panel, there is a very steep gradient after Bromsgrove, so when you set the route for a frieght train out of the loop from signal 171 there is a 3 minute delay before the signal clears. This is to ensure that any proceeding train has a chance to clear the section and so hopefully the heavy frieght trains will get a clear run up the steep gradient under greens all the way. The blue "A" denotes a controlled signal with an automatic facility. If you set the route and then check the circle, that signal will now work automatically until you un-check the circle or cancel the route. The white circles allow reduced overlaps for shunt movements for loco run rounds and suchlike. In the case of Bromsgrove, the signal will clear eventually. Signal 171 is the beginning of the steep ascent of the Lickey Incline. The delayed aspect, I believe, is to ensure the train has a clear run and, won't have to stop. Log in to reply |
