I have only just discovered that you can edit the timetable of running trains via the F2 menu.

Previously seeing that in F4 it said that editing trains already entered had no effect, I assumed it was not possible to edit running trains.

Now I know you can, I have to ask, is it cheating? Or is it what you're meant to do?

For instance a train is delayed in platform x. Another train due in that same platform, you can either hold, or send to a different one. A different platform marks you down. And confuses passengers! Should you edit the timetable so the CIS can show the platform alteration in advance of arrival?

What that (was intended to) meant was that an F4 edit would have no effect once the train TT is loaded into the live sim at its time of entry; after that point you can only alter the TT via F2.

TT explanation attempts to explain the structure, it's worth a bit of study as once you get your head round it you'll know exactly where you are with F2 & F4 edits.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Clive also amplifies and explains at post #6 in this thread.

Thanks chaps, actually it was that post from Clive that prompted my question. I probably wasn't clear in original post, I really want to know if editing the tt is "cheating " in the same way as removing a train or adjusting a length, or if it is something you should do if for example you are forced to use a different platform?

Cheers

As a train service manager for one of the TOC's, I in effect I have the abilty to "edit by f2 any of my trains that I like" and indeed am expected to do so when things go wrong in order to restore the service back to normal as soon as possible. This I would say makes some alterations fair game.

On NLL if there is an issue with getting trains into/out of Richmond (TC or points failure), which is a very common problem, I stop and reverse trains at Gunnersbury then change them to whatever the next working due out of Richmond that is approprate to the traction and edit the train left in Richmond to run as whatever the train reversed at Gunnersbury was supposed to seed.

I don't know whether that is what a TOC manager would do but it works for me! Even if it takes lots of work to do it

Pretty much what I and my fellow controllers do, the good old fashioned stepping up of stock. However we our simulated world we never have crews ringing up saying im due my personal needs break, or the other old chestnut "that will put me on overtime :p" or the stock saying of the stock controller... that unit will run out of miles if you do that.

A simple way round that, just scrawl TODNFF on the exam sheets Or for some variety TISOK

"Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer
