Well, methane and tissue paper for the fuel. Not so sure about the source of ignition. Some idiot ignoring the No Smoking signs or something maybe?

Which, incidentally, is why airplanes still have ashtrays in the toilets despite smoking on planes being banned in most countries.

Had that on 2T21 (Exmouth - Paignton) on a Pacer when the smoke alarm was beeping for the entire journey back from Exeter to Paignton and the on train crew only noticed it at Torquay. They really are idiots.

If you read the reports the poor women committed suicide - doesn't matter what was available in the toilet compartment - if one is determined to ends one life you will find any suitable material (or carry it with you) to do the job. But why on a train causing misery to others? Why do jumpers feel they have to disrupt peoples journeys - have they no consideration - or maybe the delays and congestion of their daily commuting lives feel they have to make a point and cause misery to others. Students of Frued may offer an explanation................

The report didn't specify any more than women dead found in toilet where fire started back when I made that post.

Quizman: I believe you'll find that people in a mental state to commit suicide just look for some means to do so. They don't think about how it will affect bystanders (e.g. train passengers).

I used to work on the WCML, as a signalman at Bletchley PSB and later at Rugby PSB. We had our fair share of suicides. Having had to deal with the trauma of answering the phone to a driver, I do understand a little of what folk are talking about in this forum. It usually causes great distress to the driver, or any other rail staff who have to clear up after this happens. Each case has to be dealt with on it's merits, no two ever seem to be the same, and I would say that these poor folk are a million miles away from thinking rationally.
