I am aware that Stafford is probably a low-priority for developers at present, but I haven't played it in a long time and fancy another go for something different. The trouble is the download provided does not work with Windows 7, as has been discussed on the forum before, and also affecting a few other older simulations. Is it possible for someone official to "re-package" it into either the modern Windows 7 compatible installer, or even a ZIP file so that it can be played on modern computers? I do not know how difficult the installer option would be to do, nor whether or not copying files from a ZIP to the usual SimSig directory on a hard drive would cause Windows to complain, but was mainly asking just on the off-chance that someone with the necessary authority would have the time. Thats great thanks. It is a shame that a modern timetable for Stafford would probably be unworkable with the now 4-tracked section, would be interesting to try with all those trains that mow operate down there. Log in to reply |

I've also tried the 32 bit Stafford (a long time favourite) on a new 64 bit Win 7 machine. When that didn't work, I tried the repackaged installer mentioned above. This seems to install OK but unfortunately, when I run the application, I'm informed that Direct Draw Display model cannot be set & that I should install DirectX 3 or greater. If I'm foolish enough to OK this message, I get an unending series of error messages, which can only be halted by closing the program in task manager. Anyone else had this? Log in to reply |

Make sure your monitor supports 1024x768 and that you have a proper graphics driver installed. The installer of these old sims is very old and 16-bit, so it can still run on 32-bit Windows but not 64-bit anymore. Thanks for the reply Albert. I thought the display side might be OK - GEforce GT530 & Viewsonic monitor supporting 1900 x something. I suppose it could be that the graphics card doesn't like the driver. In which case, I shall have to continue with it on an elderly laptop. And wait for developments.
