Release of Controls 14/02/2012 at 19:16 #29449

During several multiplayer sessions that I have hosted, and some I have been a client in, it has become practice for the host to use the Incident Panel (F11) in simulations with that feature in order to blow (release) locked routes ahead of track circuit failures.

I have found that some of us know how to do this and its effects like the back of our hands, whilst others not quite so much.

I am considering writing a wiki article on the basic principle, but before I do so I thought I would start a post to see if there was any demand or not, and possibly what the Developers think about the idea.

What do people think?

In my view using f11 to override a failure like that is cheating and an abuse of the f11 tool. Having said that, as you have been given f11 I guess it's up to you how you use it.

There is an established procedure in the RGS rulebook to allow that to happen in certain circumstances.

I should have added that once the route has died out the track has to be re-occupied.

I hope you're going to require people to download and fill in an RT3186.

I think someone said a while back that it can be done in real life, but only if every train in the affected interlocking has been brought to a stand.

Although personally I just do it and hope no-one noticed ;)

EDIT:
Found it- Post #26 on this thread.

If I was hosting, I'd insist on every train being brought to a stand.

It's all part of the assessment process to determine if the locked route is such an inconvenience that it warrants a release.

Would this also mean that the fault would no longer fix itself after a period of time, because it's gone from a random generated fault to one created in the ICP? (I don't completely understand how the two types interact.)

No, the S&T will still fix the fault as normal in the Sim Josie.
