I must be slow on the uptake, and I make this post in case anyone else has missed the obvious like I did.

According to something on the radio today, National Rail Railcards (Student, 16-25, Senior, Disabled and HM Forces) entitle the user to discounts on Pay As You Go Oystercard fares. The details are towards the bottom of this link. You have to register the Railcard at an Underground Station or National Rail station that sells Oystercards. 1/3 discounts apply to Rail, Underground and DLR fares and also to the daily cap. You may have trouble setting it up as the gist of the radio piece was that a lot of Underground and National Rail stations denied any knowledge of the scheme. However, it may enable some of us to save a few coppers.
