Pardon for asking this but what exact routing do I need to divert trains via the Suburban Lines into Edinburgh from both the Haymarket and Craigentinny directions?

I've tried diverting a passenger train using a Class 37 and 5 coaches to head into Edinburgh via these lines from the Fife Circle direction which meant not having to run the loco around but for some reason I'm unable to do so,

What junctions, lines, paths etc....should I use?

Please tell us what timetable you are using. I assume you mean the Slow Lines?

I'm presuming this is a "new" timetable.

I don't have the answer to hand but in the default timetable there's a 5z01 (or something like that) which pops round- maybe have a look at that.

At a guess I'd say the links were Craigentinny >Portobello J>Niddrie (?) jn>Craiglockart>Gorgie Jn>Haymarket (?)Jn > You should be prompted for lines and paths as you go along.

Haymarket W Jn - Gorgie Jn - Craiglockhart Jn - Niddrie W Jn - {Niddrie N Jn} - Portobello Jn - Edinburgh Waverely and v/v

not 100% sure whether Nidrie N Jn is required.

Edit - Peter can type quicker than me!

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Locations around Niddrie Junctions are slightly different depending on direction of travel;

Anti-clockwise services require Niddrie West Jn and Niddrie North Jn in the timetable and clockwise services require Portobello Jn and Niddrie West Jn in the timetable.

Probably easier to write a short test timetable and see how it fits together rather than edit an existing one.

The Suburban Lines name is a piece of history and refers to the loop round the South of Edinburgh between Craiglockhart and Niddrie. There is a piece on it here on Wikipedia.

Also known as "Going round the Sub" or Subbie.

In the 1993 timetable you've got 6B24 and 6B44-1 covering the necessary lines.

However if you just want to run it round the sub, abandon the timetable for the train at Dalmeny using the F2 list and it will just follow signals. Then assign it to 2P47 on arrival at Edinburgh.
