I know the Reversing Siding is electrified BUT is the Head Shunt electrified as well?

Secondly how much use does it get in real life - just wondering?

I pass it nearly everyday and should be certain, but as far as I can remember it isn't electrified. It is also only long enough for a loco to fit, and despite there being a more or less permanent "temporary" flashing light marking the end of the line, the state of the rails tell the story that it hasn't been used recently. It was cleaned up a while back - around the time the platforms at the station were being lengthened - so whether it played any part in that I'm not sure.

Dont know how recent the picture is, but on google earth Theres a sleeper chanied ontop of the track, like there is on a siding between ely and march. So i guess its not in use.

The version of Google Earth I am using shows an imagery date in the bottom left of the screen. This gives 30/07/2008 as the imagery date (once I translate if from American format).

There are also previous images; from 2000 version but the resolution is too low to see anything useful, from 2003 with the headshunt overgrown with vegetation and 2007 cleared of vegetation but no sleeper.

Just to confirm - the headshunt is not electrified, and the sleeper is in the same position.

Generally when the P-Way shorten a siding by this method, the sleeper is never removed!
