Just had a more in-depth look and it appears 4555 IDs have been issued but there are only 3606 actually listed as users and of those 96 people who signed up are recorded as never then logging in and of those 96 5 have not completed the sign-up process. I vaguely recall I cleansed out a load of incomplete sign-ups a while back which may explain the discrepancy.

2320 people (including the 96) have not logged in this year.

Something not quite right with the figures though 3606 - 5 incomplete gives 3601 so assume the "never accessed" are also discounted that gives 3510 so why the 10 difference I wonder?

I do a clean out every now and again. I did have a module that issued emails to people that had signed up but not replied to the verification email within a few days, then, if no reply was received to that within a week or so, it would then cull those members automatically. However, it seems to have stopped working!

Many attempted sign-ups are automated bots but Captcha-style processes limit those somewhat. I dislike Captcha and I disabled it for a while. The result was several automated sign-ups per hour! Known spam email addresses cut down on a large proportion too. Most of the ones that remain are email mistypes, ie somebody@yaaho.com kind of thing.

Anyway, yes, not bad considering there is no advertising by SimSig!

Still very good I think having almost 1300 (at least somewhat) active members trawling the site in the first four and a half months of the year.

i think it's safe to say that if there was a sim-making program released, we would have every section of track in the UK done in under a month. Probably.

(Disclaimer: In no way am I asking for a sim-making program to be released. I accept no responsibility for any resulting arguments or similar.)

I very much doubt it, given the amount of data that's needed. Multiply that by 20 or so to get the data if everyone who'd like to build a sim got stuck in to the necessary research, then another 10 to do the necessary coding. (Assuming I'm not being hopelessly optimistic, that is.) Then another year while people with local knowledge flagged up the errors (and dates of alterations - perhaps the most potent source of mistakes - got hammered out) and a final year for chasing the bugs out.

That, of course, assumes everyone who got involved knows both the sim creation software and the principles of UK signalling in sufficient depth.

And I'm probably being optimistic.

But thanks for your disclaimer; I fear the lack of knowledge-in-depth would lead to an awful lot of sims that looked a bit like reality but which, in the end, missed out the little wrinkles that make Simsig both ultra-realistic and endlessly fascinating, so I hope the sim-making program will be kept to an inner circle of trained developers.
