ARS and warner routes 12/06/2012 at 16:01 #33036

A minor irritation just occured whilst playing Swindid with ARS switched on.

3J42 in platform 5 is scheduled to depart for the up relief prior to the arrival of 2P98 into platform 4.

ARS pulled off for the early arrival into 4 with the overlap preventing the timely departure of 3J42.

I was wondering, in real life, is ARS capable of setting warner routes?

Yes, in general. As it happens I released core code updates to the developers a few days ago and one of the improvements was to ARS calling warner routes.

Quick follow up question for Geoff:

The sim will allow me to set a route from 903 to 907 on the up relief via the warner route and then place 903 in auto, but it will not allow me to set a route from 928 on the up chester to 916 (platform 4 starter ) via the warner route and then select auto.

Was this intentional and what happens on the ground, or a minor glitch?

I'm away for a couple of days but will try to remember to check when I get back. Feel free to nag me!

It is not always possible to use an Auto function on warner routes. Sometimes it is allowed, sometimes not.

Best way to "get round" the initial issue you describe is to pre-empt the ARS. As long as you send the train to the correct platform then the ARS will pick it up again anyway, so there would just be the one route to set manually.

Oops! As it turns out, the real thing doesn't have any auto buttons at all - it has ARS instead and the powers-that-be deemed that auto buttons aren't required where ARS is provided. Signallers often beg to differ though.
