Joining trains at Brighton 03/07/2012 at 10:35 #33613

At around midnight, some trains join at P4 and P2, one of them is 5H58 joining 2S42. 2S42 doesn't stop at the far end, so when 5H58 tries to enter P2 the signal failed to clear. When I try to make 2S42 shunt to the far end, however I reverse it it doesn't want to. I was forced to make 5H58 pass signal at danger, but of course the train is stuck outside, occupying the crossing. After they joined, I try to reverse it to make it shunt to the end, but however I reverse it the direction shows "down". I almost make it crash with 5N53.

Some trains joining at P4 also didn't go to the far end.

Abandon TT, move the train to the buffer end then reinstate the TT sometimes works.

... making sure when you reinstate the TT that it's set to the correct (joining) location, otherwise the join might not happen

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Yes, there's a whole bunch of joining trains in this timetable that need a 'Far End Exact' added to their Brighton station location (plain 'Far End' may well work just as well - I haven't tried it). Just edit the timetable of the first arriving train of a joining pair (before it arrives), and you won't have any troubles. I did it for my copy of the timetable and it's about twenty odd trains that need this treatment.
