476 posts 		Just downloaded Edinburgh as I know quite a bit of the area from my days based in Scotland but it will take time to get my bearings on the sim and I'll certainly need a good read of the manual first. Looks excellent as usual.

1313 posts 		The best place to learn about this sim is a multiplayer game.

Edinburgh is a great simulation, but keep in mind that it may hang for a while if you connect to a multiplayer game - don't force it to close, it will return back to normal in a minute.

5190 posts 		The ARS is pretty good as well so large parts of the sim can be left to run themselves provided you keep nipping back to keep an eye on them. This helps to make it just about manageable for a single player.

476 posts 		Thanks Albert and Postal for your positive comments. I must admit I am just getting to grips with Saltley and Sth Humberside (both areas I have travelled in regularly) but Edinburgh seems absolutely massive. I'll persevere and see what happens.

5190 posts 		Personal opinion is that Saltley, SHumbs and Edinburgh all carry the same sort of level of challenge, so if you can get your head round the first two, Edinburgh should be within your range.

I find this completely intriguing because I'm completely the opposite. I find South Humberside - which I know extremely well in real life - one of the easier sims; Saltley, which I don't know too well in real life, fairly straightforward to do solo if nothing goes wrong; but Edinburgh, which I also know extremely well, practically impossible to play without using the pause button a lot!

Online 		Saltley is not too bad once you have got your head round where all the freight locations are on Centre Panel.

65 posts 		Yes, it's interesting how people's reactions differ. I love Saltley (possibly because it's my local area - I live in Redditch). I have to wind the speed down a bit at busier times, but it makes sense to me as a whole. (And I can picture what it looks like on the ground, which also helps).

On the other hand, I've battled through Immingham Etc (can't remember its official name) a couple of times, but ended up so stressed out that it was more like work than pleasure!

And a short bout with Edinburgh convinced me that my head was about to explode, so I've never gone back to it.

Horses for courses, no doubt.

180 posts 		I can run Edinburgh without using pause to often, but my head explodes when I try Saltley. Somehow the area in Saltly just doesn't want to stick to my head, which in the end leads to freight trains which are run to early and causing mayhem at their relieve points. (I tried blocking Landor Street junction with a class 6 for 60 minute once) Edinburgh at the other hand is fairly straight forward in the classes and destinations, which makes it manageable. But then again, I was in the testing team for Edinburgh for a while, which rammed in all locations and quirks quite thoroughly.

Hi MikeW. I agree with you about Saltley, having worked at New Street and Solihull stations, it really helps to have the area in your mind's eye when running the sim. I'm the same with Pboro, Stafford and Cambridge.
