I'm out on a Thames Rover from Tomorrow (31st July 2012) and Wednesday (1st August 2012). Hoping to try and get an Adelante into London, anyone got any diagrams for their services?

I thought FGW had got rid of them due to unreliability.

They did, and then got them back again because they needed to free up HST sets.

The 1853 from Ealing Broadway to London Paddington today was an Adelante. This service started back at Oxford.

The reason for bringing them back in is actually to free up Turbos from the Cotswolds. This allows them to double the sets up on the Oxfords and Readings in the peak service into Paddington. It also gives the customers a nicer journey down the Cotswolds (if they don't catch fire at least )

I often see a Grand Central one parked up at Bounds Green. The Hull Trains ones seem more reliable based purely on my lack of observing them parked up!

I used to work for Grand Central until last month so i know a bit about the 180's (sadly),

There is normally a GC 180 sat at Bounds Green during the day as it comes in as 1A61 - Arr KX 12:31 to form an empty working out to Bounds Green, It then sits at Bounds Green til around 18:30 when it comes back in to KX to form 1N96 - Dep KX 19:18, so that probably accounts for seeing them parked up there,

Grand Centrals 180's are more reliable (i don't like using that word when talking about them ) than Hull Trains but i do believe that Hull Trains do work theirs a lot harder than Grand Central,

It's also a Union thing regarding FGW getting the 180's back. ASLEF were kicking up about drivers converting from 165/166 straight to an HST on link promotion. They say that a driver should first be trained on 180's before taking the step to an HST

That would be before they tried to harmonise all the contract conditions from the three groups of drivers.

It does benefit passengers though. Turbos are a complete joke on the Cotswold Line. They were fine in 95 when they strated as they were a step change from changing at Oxford. The success of the through services means that they are utterly inadequate now.

I know I used to be a driver at Oxford. The North Cotswolds sees a lot of commuters now and with the redoubling between Evesham and Charlbury I dare say an improved timetable is not far off

After all that money they still wait for passing at Evesham. Pershore would have been a better end if not all the way to Norton. Timetable has to be better than that.

I know it's a bit late, but the 11:20 Paddington - Great Malvern (or was it Worcester) is booked for a Class 180 on weekdays, which would then return to Paddington and then does a couple of Oxfords

I believe the Cotswold Line Action Group wanted full redoubling but it will require extensive changes at both Wolvercote Junction and Norton Junction to see this happen. The usual situation before the current project would only have to see one service running 30+ late to knock the whole service for the rest of the day. Which often caused a headache when I was covering in the office (Before the FGW takeover of Thames) as a panel man doing the TCS's job which I used to enjoy.

Wolvercote might be a good idea for when the Oxford area is resignalled soon.

Norton is strange because the Cotswold line is actually the main route historically - whoever designed the current layout should be shot - slowing down to use the 15mph crossover must add a couple of minutes to every down train.

I did eventually get an Adelante back from Paddington - Oxford. Forget the timings, but they are actually a nice substitution for an HST, certainly better than a Turbo to Oxford.

I like the fact that all the seats line up with windows. Went on a GC one a couple of months back to York. Came back on a 225. I know which I will go for in future given a choice!

Still a shame they squeal like a pig being put through a mangle when they stop, even from the office I currently hide in, I can hear them.

There have been some engine and door troubles with them recently so Turbo substitution is still very likely whilst remaining issues are ironed out...... :angry:

They are currently employed mainly on 1D/1W/1P workings to and fro from Paddington to Oxford & The cotswold line, as well as being employed on an early morning Oxford stopper (2N04 IIRC) and a couple of up stoppers (2P22/2P74). If I remember tomorrow I will see if I can find out what they worked today.
