still writing the 1980/81 timetable, but im struggling to research name trains to add to the descriptions.
i have the manchester pullman services covered as they are explicity stated in the WTT.

can anyone help me identify which trains were running, and if possible, what their departure times or headcodes are so i can apply them to the timetable

cheers

Royal Scot Euston to Glasgow Central around 10ish Down similar UP and it was 5 hours give or take with a stop at Carlisle only if I recall correctly.

The Clansman was the Euston-Inverness day train, think that was off EUS at around 9.20 and they crossed somewhere north of Carlisle. In later years this was off Birmingham rather than Euston

Irish Mail was an overnight to Holyhead connecting with the ferry, not sure if the return was the same Stock.

Overnight trains to Scotland were "The Royal Highlander" Inverness and Fort Bill; The Night Caledonian I think went via Dumfries; I think there was another but Can't recall its name might have been a night version of Royal Scot. In later years these were the Nightrider.

Off the top of my head (so don't have any firm details):

The Royal Scot (to/from Glasgow Central) would have been a mid morning departure from Euston IIRC.

Irish Mail (to/from Holyhead.) No idea of times or even if it was officially named.

The Clansman (to/from Inverness). Not sure when this started running as "The Clansman" but it was certainly running in '82 when I first became interested in the railways. I used to get the morning postal from Larbert to Motherwell, spend the day spotting and return on The Clansman in the afternoon. I think departure from Euston was 09:35ish.

I have summer 87 and 75 too if that'll help. I also have most of the 1Hxx/2Hxx books for the '80s if other timetables come to light and you need TDs.

To the best of my knowledge looking at the '84 TT, the named southbound arrivals were:

The Nightrider arr Euston 05:38 Mon-Sat; 05:52 Sun (ex Glasgow C 23:10 Sun-Fri; 22:10 Sat)
The Night Limited arr Euston 05:55 Mon-Sat; 07:39 Sun (ex Glasgow C 23:20 daily)
The Irish Mail arr Euston 06:12 Mon-Sat; 06:56 Sun (ex Holyhead 01:15 daily)
The Royal Highlander arr Euston 07:37 Mon-Sat, 09:31 Sun (20:30 ex Inverness daily / 17:40 ex Fort William Mon-Sat)
The Liverpool Executive arr Euston 09:40 Mon-Sat (07:00 ex Liverpool)
The Manchester Pullman arr Euston 10:04 Mon-Fri (07:35 ex Manchester)
The Royal Scot arr Euston 14:13 Mon-Sat (07:55 ex Ayr, Mon-Fri, 07:45 Sat)
The Manchester Pullman arr Euston 19:14 Mon-Fri (16:42 ex Manchester)
The Clansman arr Euston 21:10 Mon-Sat (10:20 ex Inverness)
The Glasgow Executive arr Euston 22:25 Mon-Sat (17:10 ex Glasgow C)

Also further to my earlier post The Royal Highlander also went to Fort William arr 09:50 Sun - Fri as well as Inverness (Splitting at Mossend I think)

Sorry I have no times from 80/81 at the moment however..

How the sleepers were bundled does seem to vary quite a bit over the years.

Also to add, The Night Limited was sleeping cars only during the summer,
the Royal Highlander was 'sleepers only' to/from Inverness, with sleepers and seats to/from Ft William.

Presumably this was a Summer 1986 only name, for the Stoke Garden Festival. I wonder if there was a matching Liverpool one in 1984.

Ah, that would be the one - I did wonder as I was only aware of Glasgow and Liverpool. The timetable period was 12 May to 28 September and it was not a limited period train is the best I can offer on that.

ive bought a book detailing all uk named trains past and present, and it lists the festival express as being the 1986 one, as it wasnt limited period, but ran for the full timetable period. ive now entered all the suitable names into the timetable

thanks for the help
