Probably one for Noisynoel.

Stock moves (Q moves - is that the correct term?) are given a 5Zxx headcode and a schedule is input into TRUST.

How are these schedules created? Presumably there are spare pathways already in the system and it's just a matter of selecting one based upon driver availability?

Who authorises the pathways, is it the Train Running Controller?

Thanks.

Right...

Q moves are pathways thatt have already been bought in the WTT by the Train operators but only run as required. These will have a 'normal' running number, eg 5L92 13+12 Slade Green T&RSMD - Ramsgate EMUD.
These schedules are already in TRUST, but just need activating by the TRC when the maintaincne 'planners' advise they are required to run.

All the other moves, the 5Z's or whatever we feel like calling them, are VSTP (Very short term planning). These are pathways that are requested by either the TSM or planners. These paths are created as and wen required by the TRC, who, as you quite rightly said, has the final say as to whether they run. They can run with whatever headcode we desire so long as it doesnot conflict with another train in that area with the same headcode.

These are created in one of two ways, either direct into TRUST or via our new fangled system ATOS Intergrale which will create the schedule and then send it to TRUST.

Technically we should have 1 hour notice for pass/ecs moves and 2 hours for freights, to give us time to create the path and ensure that it does not clash with any other trains.

If you want to see how we do it, then you are more than welcome to pop over and either I or one of the TRC's will show you whats involved. It can be a very long complicated process. Several signallers from Ashford have gone away 'enlightened' after seeing what it takes to create VSTP paths for freights!

As far as I know, "Q" paths are "run as required", but are built into the working timetable. We have plenty of them in our simplifiers (generated from the WTT), of which we very rarely, if at all, see.

And they don't have to be 5*** or *Z**. There is a 1V80 from Vic Eastern to Bath [via Tulse Hill, Streatham, Wimbledon] (I assume is some VOSE-like thing) that was listed as a Q path in the Panel 3 simplifier. Most of the class 5 Q's I see are 5Y**.

[EDIT: Was composing this as Noel replied. He wins]
