Hi everyone,

I've been on SimSig for a little while and just got back into it and trying to get to grips with it. I'm trying my luck with Liverpool st, I've discovered it's got ARS but I don't understand what the point of it is as surely it takes the whole point of it out the game? Can someone explain how to get the best of it please?

Aaron

ARS lightens the workload of the signalman, it does not replace him. ARS is there to route trains on the mundane and repititive routes, and allow you to focus on regulating early/ late running trains, replatforming, and dealing with faults and failures. it also isnt as intelligent as a human, nor does it have common sense, so it does need monitoring anyway.

if youre finding it boring, try turning off half the ARS at the station and see how it goes

Personally, I let ARS run screen 2, and I do screen 1. That way I can turn full attention to screen 1. If I control both I end up setting routes hastily at Liverpool Street and delaying a departure.

ARS is good for larger simulations, where you can leave it looking after the smaller junctions and take control of the complex areas yourself.

SimSig was originally designed to replicate IECC boxes/methods of operation which includes ARS. As time has passed some developers have chosen not to have it and others (including me) have chosen to offer it as an option.
