Okay, got a few sorted & made fit to put up here (I hope - apologies in advance if they don't conform to rules or don't show properly).

Some are rather old and there are quality issues, particularly with the pre-1981 examples which were taken with a secondhand camera and not stored very carefully. I hope they're of sufficient interest to compensate for that.

This is Stratford from platform 12 (I think) as was, with one of the old cl 306 units (converted from 1500V DC stock) arriving at platform 8 (down electric line). The three lines on the extreme right are where the NLL platforms now are and the wall on the left is the relay room of the 1949 signalbox (site now occupied by a bridge pier for the Westfield access). In fact if you go to Stratford today it's almost impossible to imagine it ever looked like this!

Westbound Central line train arrives at Leytonstone in 1977. It is passing over the trailing points of a scissors crossover that allowed trains from the Wanstead or Snaresbrook direction to arrive in either platform and which was invariably taken at full speed with the brake just being applied for the stop!

Interior view of Leytonstone High Road signalbox in 1977; not the Midland Railway block instruments have given way to BR "penguin" examples, with an Eastern Region block switch. The space taken up by the Derby frame can be clearly seen; it was a very cramped little box.

A Cl 46 passes Kentish Town on the down fast in early 1978, while a stopper calls on the up. Islip Street bridge has already been rebuilt for electrification. The lines on the right were still the goods lines at this time; as part of the resignalling they became the fast lines and the fast lines became slow lines.

A Cl 46 takes an ECS ("Cricklewood cars"through the down local platform at West Hampstead, early 1978. It is just possible to see the up fast starter showing clear above the buildings on the overbridge. Finchley Road (the next box south, about 650 yards from that signal) was not permitted to accept up the fast until his junction was clear, so there can have been no hanging around to get that signal clear so quickly. Under high magnification it's possible to see that Finchely Road distant, under the starter, is also clear so Finchley has also "got the road" from Carlton Road Junction (south of Belsize Tunnel) and pulled off. The slickness and co-ordination needed seems incredible today; in those days it was the norm, happening many times a day without anyone ever thinking it was out of the ordinary!

Another Cl 46 (the staple motive power on the Midland) takes a down express through West Hampstead on the fast line, early 1978. The goods lines are visible on the far side of the layout.

Super shot of the Cl.46 at Kentish Town. I remember it well being born & raised in Bedford used to travel almost every Saturday from Bedford to St. Pancras on the 0839 from Bedford loco hauled. It was only £1 cheap day return to St. Pancras then (1975 - 1976). I remember when I was on the footplate at St. Pancras being told the story about Islip Street signalbox being destroyed by a steam loco travelling tender first. I also remember the fast lines becoming the slow lines & visa versa.

General view of West Hampstead signalbox from the low numbered end of the frame. This was early 1978, just a couple of months before closure. The large number of white levers used to work the connections to the southern end of West End Sidings, which closed in the 1960s.

Don't you mean Cl.45s being the staple motive power on the midland mainline Keith? I can't recall them being that common on the midland mainline. Cricklewood depot had an allocation of Cl.45s & some Cl.47s, but no Cl.46s although I do remember them going through Bedford on occasions.

A rather blurred photo of West Hampstead in early 1978; I've included it because it is the only one I have that shows the box diagram. The goods lines are at the top with the box between the fast and local lines at the right hand end of the platforms. It's also worth including for the impression it gives of a line of rotary block instruments (there were 4 sets here, plus a "standard" Midland set for the goods lines to Finchley Road and a LNWR-style permissive instrument for the goods lines to Cricklewood). The effect of this serried rank of polished brass & mahogany was impressive, to say the least!

Have you got any photos of the Cl.127 diesel hydraulic DMUs that cover the suburban services between Bedford & St. Pancras. Always remember the 1210 ex Bedford to St. Pancras used to convey tail traffic.
