Hello,

Quite a few sims offer "Covid" timetables. What can I expect from them? I would assume less trains? Anything else special about them?

Trains must self-isolate and only couple up if in the same support bubble.

Thank you. I did not understand anything of that though... Can you elaborate?

Passenger services were drastically cut down on most routes when lockdown came in towards the end of March 2020. Some were reinstated in the summer of 2020, before being curtailed again in winter and the spring of 2021. Services were then gradually restored, however some routes have never returned to 2019 levels with changing travel patterns. Refer to individual TT descriptions as things varied on a line by line basis.

Freight traffic was less affected as far as I know.

From what I remember when driving trains during Covid, most routes saw a 50% reduction in frequencies (Picc-Stoke and Picc-Chester from hourly to two-hourly) and some shorter routes were merged into their longer equivalents - so no Picc-New Mills as it was covered by Sheffield services. Manchester Airport saw a huge reduction thanks to almost zero demand. Services started a lot later with last trains mostly being around 10pm, however what did run was usually a double unit for social distancing. One foible we did have during the main 2020 lockdown was a staff train which did a couple of trips from Piccadilly to Stockport early morning and late evening, via Longsight depot, to drop off and collect staff in lieu of taxis.

A Covid TT on most sims will be fairly simple in comparison to non-Covid. Clockface, lower frequency services with no peak time extras and later starts. Perhaps the occasional route retention or staff service on some lines.

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.
