For those who are new to hosting multiplay session and wonder if others can connect to your host, you can download my program SimSig Launcher.

It has a function to test your port forward setup and make sure that others can connect to you. It also shows your external IP address to be given out.

Easy, green stands for OK and red stands for FAIL.

For instructions to setup port forwarding, please consult the user manual of your router.

Useful though your launcher program looks, for people who only want to check for open ports it can be done easily in a web browser without installing any software. YouGetSignal has a port checker (amongst other stuff).

You may confuse people who haven't yet started a simulation in host mode, and this does not always reach your computer, for example your roommate redirected port 50505 so that he can host a SimSig mp.

Though, smart people will not be confused that way. But I believe most people would like to be lazier.

My program actually have some checking mechanism to make sure the server is looking at the correct machine, so that even if your roommate started SimSig on his own machine it can still distinguish. I don't mind posting my server-side code:

[Code removed - GM]

Anyway, this is just advertising the extra function of my SimSig Launcher, and can potentially prevent newbies posting their internal IPs.

All this helpful stuff might be better explained on the WIKI where it will not get lost in time.
