Hi!

I'm playing Exeter 2006 timetable (supplied with the sim) and it's currently 10:29. A couple of minutes ago, 1L13 issued TRTS at Exeter Central platform 2, as per its timetable, asking to leave (at 10:27) and head up to Exeter Saint Davids platform 1. That platform is currently occupied by 2F19, which according to its timetable wants to sit until 10:50. Previously ExSD P1 had also contained another train at the same time as 2F19 which arrived just after it (I think 2F17? I can't remember for sure). I got that previous train into Ex SD 1 with a call-on, then routed it out again and onwards without any trouble. I figured no problem, I'll do the same with 1L13: route from 302 to 335 and from 335 to 437, thus achieving a call-on into ExSD P1. Except it didn't work. 302 never cleared, and I don't know why! I eventually replatformed 1L13 into P3, but that meant I had to delay it while 2A19 got out of that platform (itself a little bit late due to earlier issues). Can anyone tell me why I couldn't call on 1L13 from Exeter Central P2 into Exeter Saint Davids along with 2F19, the way AFAICT the timetable intended? It's not that 2F19 shouldn't be there either—it became that after turning from 5F19, which was scheduled to arrive in ExSD P1 at 10:26, while 1L13 is scheduled to arrive there at 10:29.5! Thanks for any insight.

I haven't played the timetable recently, so can't recall the exact set of movements that are required. However, it's clear from the Wiki that calling on is not possible from Exeter Central:

"Calling-on routes are permitted in all platforms at Exeter St. David’s, however trains from Exeter Central cannot be called in to Platforms 1 and 3 at Exeter St. David’s due to the steep downhill gradient at between the Central and St. David’s. However if a train has been routed from St. David’s to signals 213 or 313, using the white shunt arrows, they can be called-on back into St. David’s."

On further investigation, it looks like a possible error with the timetable for 1L19. Using the Simplifier (F8), there's no reason this couldn't be routed to platform 3- there would certainly be no conflict in the timetable, though if 2A19 is running late that's a separate issue you'd have to work around.

In a previous post related to this, Noisynoel proposed an alternative solution where the first train is shunted to the New Yard and back again.

Right, I even remember reading about that in the wiki! Silly me. I guess I should just count it as an issue in the timetable then. I think I've managed to shove enough trains out of the way that there won't be any more trouble after this, and nobody was more than a couple of minutes late.
