In scrolly sims, messages can be removed from the message window by right-clicking (either a single message or all above the selected can be removed). However, should a new message be added appear while the right-click menu is open, the selection outline will move to the new (bottom) message, and either that message or all messages in the window will be removed, not just the message originally selected (and optionally all above it). This happens in WINE; I have not checked Windows.

I suggest pausing the sim when doing things with the message list. This ensures that there isn't an opportunity for a new message to appear.

You know, I never thought of that! It makes sense. I would be pausing a lot because I use the message list as a stash of things I still need to deal with, deleting messages once I’ve taken care of them, but it would probably work.

I do that for long-term stuff. This is for short-term things, like "I need to remember to handle that TRTS in another minute after the track clears", or "I need to remember those barriers are down so I can open them after the train passes" (for ones without auto raise), or things like that.
