Afternoon all, I am contemplating replacing the current 13" screen I use for my PC with a bigger screen (20" or slightly bigger). If I do this and was playing, say, the KX sim then would I be able to see more of the sim layout without scrolling? For example, at the moment if I am working the KX panel then I can't see beyond the fringe point with the next panel. If I got a bigger screen would I be able to see further into the panel? Or would it make no difference? I am thinking of something in the 20" - 25" bracket. Advice welcome. Thanks, Dave Log in to reply |

Dave, If you use a high resolution in your display settings then you can get more of the sim on the screen. I have on occasion connected my laptop to my 40 inch television by an HDMI cable when hosting chained multiplayer games and you can get a lot of panel onto that. Steve Log in to reply |

It has nothing to do with the screen size (how big it physically is), but what resolution (how many actual pixels it has).

Stephen, Thanks for the reply. Can you not get computer monitors that are HD when you buy them? Or would the type of cable you mention have to be purchased separately? If the latter then roughly what would be the cost? @Sacro: yes I meant pixels. However surely the bigger the screen the more pixels? The only reason for using the television was a purely secondary use for both devices, I have only done it a couple of times. I have not purchased a computer monitor for many years as I only use my laptop nowadays so cannot tell you what modern ones are like. I half considered building a system similar to Karl and Alan with multiple monitors but eventually decided I could not really justify spending the money on it. Log in to reply |

A small screen with a huge number of pixels isn't necessarily any better either as if you set it to the maximum setting you may struggle to read the output - I personally would rather scroll the screen a bit than give myself a headache straining to read the contents on a higher resolution. Sacros phone for instance could display all of WembleySub or Drain on its screen, but it would be unplayable as you would never be able to see it well enough. Log in to reply |

I treated myself to a Dell U2412M for Christmas. It's not cheap, but it's a brilliant screen. 24", 1920x1200 (none of this 16:9 garbage), super bright LED backlight (my old 20" LG is dimmer at 65% brightness than this one at 35%, though some of that will be age), 4-port USB 2.0 hub (USB 3.0 would be nice, but at this point, all my devices are USB 2.0) and 4-way adjustable stand (height, swivel, tilt, pivot). Dell use a 6-bit (per component (R, G & B ), so 262,144 colours total) e-IPS panel in it, so you don't get the full colour resolution of a top-tier IPS screen, but they play some tricks to simulate an 8-bit (16.8 million colour) panel, which seems to work pretty well. I have dual 1920×1080 monitors for other things I do on my computer. When I’m playing SimSig I resize the window up to cover all of both screens. A 3840 pixel wide SimSig window is really nice to have—I can fit about 2/3 of Exter on screen at once!
