Hi everyone. Although I have been registered since 2011 I never got round to posting anything. I have been using SimSig for a number of years after being told about it on the UKTrainSim website. I try to use the same username on all forums and luckily for me it was free here also. I have never really done multiplayer apart from on our network at home but my daughter quickly got bored and started sending me trains all out of sequence on Kings Cross which resulted in mayhem. I nearly went along to the Bristol meet up way back when it was held in the Railway Club at Temple Meads since I had connections with the Railway Club at the time. Work intervened though so I had to fly to Germany instead. I am considering registering for the next meet up in Bristol but am a bit concerned I might make a fool of myself amongst more experienced users. During the week I work away so I can't hack holes in the router belonging to the people I rent my room from. At home I can open the ports on our Virgin Superhub but time at weekends is at a premium being away 5 days every week. The fact the Superhub reboots frequently losing any modifications to it's ports etc. is a pain in the rear also. Anyhow - enough waffle from me for one post  Kindest regards John Log in to reply |

Hi, and welcome. Regarding the Bristol meet, please don't feel afraid to show up. Many people just turn up for the beer or social events anyway, don't go near a laptop at all. But even if you did play, everybody is there learning off each other and helping each other. I hope you'd be made to feel very welcome!

Why not join in one of the multiplay sessions someone else is hosting and which is advertised on the Forum as well? You shouldn't need to make any changes to your own router or set-up if you are joining a session someone else is hosting. If you are a bit worried about showing yourself up, most hosts are happy to have people connected who are just sitting and watching (and I expect you'll soon find that you are at least as competent as anyone else).

Thanks for the replies. I have registered for the meet up and I will try to watch and participate in some multiplayer sessions beforehand. Next week or two is very busy in the run up to Brighton Modelworld where UKTrainSim are exhibiting using my N Gauge layout as the DCC demonstrator again but after that I will have a little more time available. When you are ready, simply put yourself forward to take control of a panel when there is a panel rotation. If you'd rather start on an easier panel, then let people know and I am sure they can suggest which would be a good place to start. There is always plenty of opportunity to swap to a different panel as the day progresses. If you read the posts from those who attended meets for the first time in the past, almost all say something along the lines of they had a great time and learned a lot in the process so my advice would be take the plunge!! You're very welcome to either watch or participate in any of my multiplayer sessions, I don't mind less experienced players joining in, we were all new once after all

And some of us oldies are quite capable of embarrassing ourselves too (tho' I think my Peterborough performance at the last London meet :blush: got surprisingly little notice :cheer: )

Hi John, I'm one of the 'older' players and went to my first meet at Derby a while back. It was great to socialise and put faces to some of the names on here. I didn't join any sessions but did observe quite a few and picked up loads of tips. The guys were really welcoming and I had a brill afternoon. Give it a go, as others have said, we all had to learn.
