Westbury Sim & the Reading Blockade... 18/02/2013 at 21:29 #41621

Hi all,

Just a note to advise that I am now in the process of working on a Westbury TT for the period during the Reading blockade (29th March - 07th April 2013).

Although I will have all the passenger trains that I need, I may call for someone to code the freight workings, of which there are quite a few! A separate message will appear when I need someone to code the freight.

HTIOI,
Dave

Hi all,

A short update on this TT.

Although I have most of the passenger trains now in I have not had much time to work on things over the last few days. In addition the info for the Reading - Westbury services is not complete so this is going to make things difficult to finish.

The Reading - Bedwyn - Westbury info on OTT is not complete as:

a) there is, at the time of writing, no subsequent train for the last of these trains after it arrives at Westbury and, in addition, no service starting from Westbury next day until after the first train from Reading arrives.

b) there is also no clue as to the schedule of some of the (presumed) ECS workings from Reading to Bedwyn leaving a few trains with no obvious earlier working that start from Bedwyn.

Therefore I am going to put the creation of this TT on hold until such time as the required info becomes available. In the interim I will do one for another sim and I will announce the completion of this when it is done.

Apologies for keeping you all on hold.

Dave

Sorry for a big bump but is relevant to this thread and saves a new one.

Is this still in the works Dave? Don't know if you got all the data you wanted, just wondered as I note it's not been released yet. I'm not pushing for a release date, ETA, progress percentage or anything like that, just wondered if you are still doing it that's all.

Cheers,

James.

Hi James,

Thanks for the bump. Afraid I never got the thing completed in time. Although I got quiet a few of the trains in, work got busy and the time I had to work on the TT got reduced.

Have no fear though: I am working on another Westbury TT which will be for the 01st July, the day people will be travelling home from the Glastonbury Festival. Plenty of extra trains will be running and it should be fun. The TT isn't complete but there are 216 trains atm but I have two trains that I think should be in there but the information for them is not available on OTT.

What was left to do in the diversion timetable?

Seems a shame for your hard work to go to waste!

PS: the other Westbury timetable sounds good

Dave,

Please don't ever feel that you are time-pressured or running to any sort of deadline for writing this or any other timetable! I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that, even if we perhaps don't show it publicly, we appreciate all of your efforts in writing any timetable for any of the simulations - and I'd hope that no-one is expecting you to complete and publish this or any other timetable by any sort of deadline!

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Well said UKTM, I hope I didn't come across as expecting a deadline, just since Dave went quiet I wondered if it was abandoned or not.

There is no timescale, so feel free to dust it off now and again. I was mainly asking as I'm sure a few on here would enjoy playing this

If you do not have the time at all to finish it, would you be willing to hand it to someone else to finish it off for you? Just trying to save any wasted effort.

James.

Jup, indeed. I'd love to see some new TT's for Westbury. Still like to play it.. It was my first 'big' sim I played, lol.

Guys,

Thanks for your replies. In answer to those:

1. The source I was using was, for anyone who has never heard of it, opentraintimes.com and they incorporate data from Network Rail such as train numbers although they don't give the freight codes. In recent times it has started to be the case that, once any diversions are finished, the data is revised to remove the revisions. Therefore once the blockade was over the data was no longer available.

2. Don't worry: no impression was given that a deadline existed.

3. The TT for Westbury that I am currently working on should be finished. At the moment I am currently checking over the TTs for the local services between Bedwyn, Newbury and Reading: I merged them in from another TT and there are a few differences in times as well as start / finish points. There will be quite a few extra trains from the normal TT and it should be fun. As a side note there are some rather odd timings: one train at Newbury has an allowance of 12 minutes while another - a dead working - operates through Frome but waits at Frome North junction for just over 20 minutes. Hope the driver working the latter one IRL remembers to take a newspaper!

Thanks for the updates though Dave, much appreciated :)

I might have a bash at this myself instead using the little information I have (some headcodes I do have), although I don't want it to be, it'll have to be a bit fictional for the info I don't have, but I would like to simulate the scenario of diverted HST's.

Although it would be for my personal entertainment, I can upload it to here if people would like to see it, but as I say it will be partially fictional but it's about the closest I can get using the diverted timetable (which my partner has a copy of somewhere) and some headcodes from Yahoo Group sites and the Railway Observer.

EDIT:

P.S - Well that does sound like an interesting alternative, been a while since we had a Glastonbury edition

Yes it has been a while. This one has trains entering in odd places too: one train, running dead from Bristol to Castle Cary enters at Cogload Junction! A look on OTT for this one reveals IRL that it is running from Bristol to Taunton, then reversing at Taunton.

If you want I can send you my files for that Reading blockade TT and you can take it from there. PM me an email address if you want that.

I will do! Can't work on it yet as I am halfway through the Brighton 2005 TT, so it'll be after.

Didn't know they are doing Castle Cary via Taunton, sounds like the days of the 90's when the 37's did Bristol to Castle Cary via Taunton (with a run round).

It does seem a long way round but I suppose it avoids inconvenience potentially caused to other trains. The dead workings via. Taunton terminate at Platform 1 of Castle Cary station and then leave back to Bristol TM in service via. Westbury, Trowbridge and Bath. On arrival at Bristol TM some of them come back to Castle Cary again via Taunton so basically a constant circuit.

As for my Festival TT I have spent parts of the last day or two sorting TTs for the Newbury & Bedwyn services: I merged in the ones from a previous TT (less bother with writing them) so if any errors get picked up I just correct them. Checking over the London Paddington - Devon & Cornwall HSTs will be next.
