I was just wondering - on some of the platforms at lime street station, in between the running rails there are...things...The only way I can think to describe them is sort of, very shallow troughs with metal dividers in...Hopefully someone will know what I mean - what is there purpose? I'll try and find a photo if I can...

I think I know what you're asking about - having seen what I suspect is the same or similar in Platforms 1 - 4 at St. Pancras International. Is it what you can see in this image? http://www.flickr.com/photos/barry13092/3177277322/

Yeah that's them! I know it seems really stupid - I've just always wondered what they're for! (Sorry for slow reply, been busy with work :pinch
