I have two problems at the moment with North East Scotland.
1. At Greenloaning loop I have a freight in the loop and a class 1 on the main but I cant set the route from signal GL5 to Signal GL7 because it says that the points are locked by another route.


2. At Tay Bridge I am having problems with signal D714 clearing.


I have looked at the Manuel but couldn't find anything.

1) What is the status of mechanical interlocking? I suspect it is on, and you haven't normalised the points into the loop after the freight entered. If under display options you tick the 'show point positions' that should confirm.

Second is explained here - You can only signal one train at a time through the "High Girders".

First I'll have to look into- what settings did you launch it as? It looks like you have not got point position enabled (f3 option) so I can't see which way the points are lying.

I have mechanical interlocking off, Track off, Bells off and TORR on.


I have tried to change the points manually as well.

The points into the loop are locked reverse, I suspect this is because they are within the clearing point with a train accepted and now approaching. If so, the locking should clear once the train is proven to be at a stand at the home signal (GL5).
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Played on an extra 3 minutes and the locking on the points still hasn't knocked out. Which means now that 1A59 is held at signal GL5.

I suppose you're playing the 2006 timetable. In that case 4A11 has a length of 250 m, while according to the manual Greenloaning DGL only has a length of 220 m. That means that the trains is overhanging the loop entrance points, although not far enough to be actually visible on the track circuits. So the only thing you can do is to signal 4A11 out of the loop and live with the delay that'll cause to 1A59.
On a side note, as far as I have gathered, Greenloaning seems to be switched out most of the time now - except for the occasional equipment testing, or diverted trains which require additional capacity. So in reality you wouldn't even be able to use the loops there - and accordingly the block section then goes from Dunblane all the way to Blackford.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

I cheated a bit by changing the length to 220m.

Although the 'loop' end of the crossover might not be TC'd in reality (acceptable by virtue of being visible from the box, presumably), doesn't that make things rather unworkable in the sim? How does one know when an arriving train is clear inside, other than by repeatedly trying to swing the points?

I have checked the f2 and it has been in the loop for at least 3-5 minutes.

If the visible TC are clear then within a few seconds, assuming the train is of the correct length, the points should be clear.

I'll concede that the sim appears to prevent you swinging the points with the loop end fouled, but in reality (and therefore also in Simsig ), I wouldn't want to attempt to swing them unless I knew that the train was cleared - hence my query really.

I did make the train shunt forward, when the train shunts forward to the signal does it stop directly in line with the signal or a little bit short?
