I haven't found anything in the Wiki about where snapshots are saved or how to recall them. Are they in .ssg format? Intend to create an entry for this. Thanks.

Snapshots are in .ssg format and saved to the sim's folder.

Detail point:
In non-loader sim the *.ssg are saved by default in the same folder as the WTTs, but with new Loader sims the default is ..\Simulations\Simname ie in the same folder as the Simname.sim.

Normally they would be recalled via 'Load saved game' option when starting sim.

Snapshots *are* saved games. There's just a periodic task to do a save without asking.

Just a bit more help please.

I tried checking the "Use Public Documents folder" just to see what might happen, and the snapshots continued to be saved to the C:\Program Files (x86)\SimSig\(simname) folder instead of to C:\Users\Public\Documents\SimSig\(simname), as I expected. Clicking Ctrl+S also took me back to the Program Files folder. Is this a bug?

Obviously it wouldn't make sense to save only the snapshots to the Public folder as then they wouldn't be available to be played as loaded games, not without some fiddling and moving.

As you can see from the filepath, I'm playing SimSig on a 64-bit machine. I guess on a 32 bit machine it would be C:\Program Files\SimSig\(simname).

No. It's a windows thing! It remembers the last location you saved to.

Did you restart the simulation after changing the box? If you didn't, the save location won't change. Note also that the Public Documents box also changes where the simulation looks for timetables.

Yes, I did. I checked the Use Public Documents folder box, saved the sim as usual in my Program files folder, then restarted SimSig, loaded that saved game and confirmed that Use Public Documents folder was checked. I then went on to create snapshots which continued to be stored in the Program Files folder. This seems surprising, as I would have expected SimSig to have created a folder with the sim name in the Public Documents folder all by itself. I can understand Windows selecting the Program Files folder when I am saving a game manually because as you say it tries to be helpful by remembering the last saved location. But in SimSig, snapshot taking is automatic, therefore I would expect the snapshot files to be stored in the Public Documents folder if this checkbox has been ticked.

In the later .exe versions and in the Loader, you may also have to add the location using the Folder Options button in the Loader or from F3 in the .exe sims.

It is noted in the Wiki page for the Loader.

You must be referring to a different sim than the one I'm currently playing (Westbury v2.227). I can't find any such location control feature on mine, other than the checkbox for storing (presumably only) snapshots in the Public Documents folder.

I'm starting to feel it might be wiser not to expect too much from this feature but to wait till a Loader version is created.

Yes, indeed. I think v2.227 is pre-Folder Options territory.

hi all thought it was relevant to this topic....i recently added anotherhard drive to my pc a SSD drive with windows 8 on it.. i kept my old drive too as it is more space on it but is slower so tend to use it for storing things like SimSig on which dont require very fast pc.. ive reinstalled simisg again onto my older drive and works fine the only problem is i cant save snapshots i guess its somethin to do with it trying to save to my C drive (ie the SSD drive ) and not my older drive and i cant seem to be able to designate where snapshots are saved ..is there a way round this as i rely on snapshots quite a lot before

many thanks
