New Westbury: a couple of things..... 11/11/2013 at 11:43 #51335

Hi all,

Just a couple of queries regarding the new Westbury sim:

1. On the new version of Westbury, one of the signals at Thingley Junction, which is on the main line west of Chippenham and therefore outside Westbury panel's area but shows anyway, can be set for trains down to Melksham which it couldn't before. The signal in question is numbered as 74. Is this a bug or is this on purpose?

2. I note that Westbury Engine Sidings has been added to the list of phonecalls but why would this be necessary for sidings where there is one exit and one entry line? At the last try I managed to set a route into the engine sidings without ringing up first.

Can't find answers to the above in the current Wiki for Westbury.

Cheers,
Dave

Signal 74 is there on purposes, but is a part-bug as well, which I have raised with Peter through the usual channels either last night or the night before.

It is actually SN74 signal, over which Westbury PSB has a slot arrangement to allow Swindon to route over the single line in that direction. Being a slot it should indicate RED when the SLOT (not the signal) is ON, and WHITE when the slot has been granted by the Signalman at Westbury. The actual aspect of the signal (and indeed whether or not it is lit) is not displayed to the Signalman at Westbury. Slot 139 at Yeovil Pen Mill is the same.

As for the engine sidings, it would not be uncommon to have to phone up to send a train in to similar locations. Although there is only one entrance and one exit visible to the Signalman, quite a lot can go on inside the yard.

Isn't the phone supposed to basically act as the handheld radios they use? I know the shunter's radio in the PSB if there's a train shunting, train departing etc, but I can't remember seeing it used for the Engine Sidings area, just the up yard.

Though since then there is now a rail recycling yard that is connected from the engine sidings area, though ECS units entering seem to be self operated, with the driver setting the route via the manual points into the relevant siding.

I do not know the area well enough to know if one is used for that particular siding or not, was just trying to explain the normal reason.

Phone calls to Westbury Engine Sidings was in the previous version. You had to make a call and were told which road to enter, IN or OUT road. One of Colourlight's TTs had engines moving in and out every 10 minutes.
