Hello all,

Really enjoying the sim. I have a question. I have a late running RHTT, which is booked SL to its destination. Obviously, with a normal train you may be flexible with FL/SL to get it to destination as quick as possible without causing delays to other trains. However, with a RHTT, are the lines designated specifically to ensure coverage of the tracks? So could I run this train FL to make up time, or should I send it SL?

Question also applies to test trains.

RHTT trains should really be kept on their scheduled lines where possible, otherwise it defeats their whole purpose.

EDIT: Test trains (such as the measurement train) should also, if possible, run booked route for the same reason.

Some test trains must not be diverted. For example, on the Western region, the working timetable from the Network Rail website lists them specifically, in a box entitled:

ALL CONCERNED TO PLEASE ENSURE THAT SERCO RAIL TESTING TRAINS ARE
NOT DIVERTED FROM THE SPECIFIED RUNNING LINES SHOWN IN THE
SCHEDULES PUBLISHED IN THE WTT.
THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT TO ENABLE THE TESTING TO BE CARRIED

Was told pretty much the same by one of my train running controllers one morning when a 1Qxx was leading a 2T down the the Medway Valley and I wanted to get round the 1Q at Maidstone West by putting it on the Reversible, I got firmly told not to interfere with such matters and trains :(

At West Hampstead we are flexible with the RHTT. Obviously we keep it as booked if possible, but often we have to play with its routing. All that matters really is to ensure all lines are covered. At night it often can't cover all lines as it weaves around T3 possessions.

Nothing wrong in going slow Bedford to Flitwick, fast to Harpenden, Slow to Radlett then fast to Kentish, just as long as you do the opposite on the way back :-)

It also depends on if RHTT is treating a portion of track or in transit between treatment sites. If it is only transit, there can be a lot of flexibility.

The same can be said of track recorders. If they are recording, no diversions. If they are transit, as many as you want!
