You've all seen it, right?

"Is anyone hosting...?"

Asking in the shoutbox if anyone is, or will be hosting appears to be almost standard practise these days.

Most of the time it carries on without raising too many eyebrows, but just lately seems to have become a source of friction between certain forum users.

Often, in reaction to the question "is anyone hosting...?", another member will reply by posting a link to the Session Details section in the shoutbox.

This is all very well and good for sessions which have, or are about to start, but in many cases what the enquirer is actually getting at is: "is anyone planning to host today?.

In which case a link to the session details section wouldn't be of much use.

So, to all you multiplay addicts out there: if you want to know if someone is planning a session later on, then your enquiry needs to be phrased accordingly to prevent misunderstanding.

And to anyone considering replying to an incorrectly phrased inquiry: you know what it is they are asking. Remember, English may not be their first language, so don't just post a link - it's not particularly helpful and comes across as a bit smarmy and makes Simsig seem an intolerant and unfriendly sort of place.

Lets try not to make a mountain out of a molehill.

Peace.

John,

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with what you are saying here, it seems to me that you are advocating one thing for the shout box problems but saying a completely different thing to my query regarding people asking about new and/or updating of Sims.

As per your response to my topic where you said the following - 'the mods could delete the offending posts/threads. Or the admin could impose a blanket ban on these types of questions, enforceable by banishing the individuals concerned from the forums'. Whilst these measures might well discourage the practise, I think that this type of heavy-handed approach would be disproportionate to the matter and would be detrimental to the community. But we need to understand peoples enthusiasm, not stifle it'.

All of this could be seen as being applicable to both.

On reflection, I fear that we all need to be a bit more understanding with tolerance on the issues and see both sides of the arguement. Lets face it once this topic disappears from the front page we will still have people who either choose to ignore your/my requests or will not look at previous posts and take heed of what was previously requested or said on the many issues.

Personally, as long as the basic Forum rules are not breached, I don't care what people write in the Shout box. It saves clogging up the forum with inconsequential tittle-tattle.

Northroad,

The point I’m trying to get across is one of tolerance and understanding.

No matter what, people are going to ask about sims and sim updates, just as they will enquire in the shoutbox about hosting sessions.

In both cases, this will cause irritation for some members.

I said in my response to your thread that the only way to curb such activity would be to police the forum with an iron fist.

Let me make myself quite clear:

I was, and am not in any way advocating such a disproportionate policy, quite the opposite, as it would cause more trouble than it would solve.

I really don’t see why either case is such a problem for some people.

As Peter says, nobody has breached any forum rules – so why all the silly and entirely avoidable fuss?

Because there are some members here who are very childish, and like to cause controversy, has a adult age, but the mind of a 7-year-old child :silly: , that is the only reason my friend.

That's a little out of order, isn't it?

What may be unimportant or insignificant to one person may be seen as of critical importance by another. If we all start calling anyone with different opinions to ourselves "childish" or having the "mind of a 7-year-old child" there will soon be a lot of heat on the Forum but very little light.

Don't think there's a lot more to be said on the matter so shall we call it a day or shall I lock the thread?
