Hello all,

Just a comparison from SimSig and the real panel, does anyone know if the overlap is locked towards back towards the Up Leamington line in real life as it does in SimSig?

I ask mainly because of the operation that exists between the Birmingham Moor Street - Leamington Spa Chiltern stopper and the Newcastle - Reading XC fast. Having done this in reality, the Leamington local, which is booked to use the DPL to allow the XC to pass, the train entered the loop and rolled down the DPL to a slow gentle stop to the end of the loop. Within no more than a minute the XC service went flying past.

On SimSig, replicating this on a modern TT seems to have a different outcome. The Leamington stopper enters the loop, with the XC service hot on it's tail, and then casually comes to a stop in the loop, whilst the XC service is soon approaching the signal protecting Bentley Heath L.C.
The stopper seems to take a while to stop, and it's a considerable time before the overlap clears. The XC service is now at a red, and the overlap clears, the XC service is set but the barriers aren't yet down. After the overlap clearing and then the barriers coming down, the XC passes the crossing just over 2 minutes late.

Seeing this in real life, the timing the train comes to a stop and the voyager speeding past appears (observing as a passenger) that the overlap doesn't affect much in the way of routing the XC service. One also assumes the barriers at Bentley Heath might be able to be locked down too so that once the local has passed, the signaller doesn't have to wait for the barriers to go up and then back down?

These are just guesses, it's just that compared to real life it works like clockwork, but in the sim all my XC's end up passing Bentley Heath/Dorridge 2 minutes late.

Bentley Heath was worked by a crossing keeper who slotted the various protecting signals. He could see what was coming and operate his barriers accordingly.

I have been on 2H24 in that loop whereby it has not even come to a stand before the Voyager charged through - once I think the driver managed to time his run up the loop so slow as not to have to stop at the signal at the end at all.

Don't forget that things may have changed from when Saltley Controlled the area to how it is now in WMSC

I think the overlap should probably have been selectable into the sand drag.
