Thought I might as well open this topic. Oddly enough can't find this on any other news sites but it appears two engineering trains have collided 2 miles north of Penrith.

Confirmed by the National Rail website. Services are not expected to be resumed until Tuesday morning. Currently buses are being used between Carlisle and Penrith.

It happened within an engineering possession.

66061 went into the rear of my train while in pocession it was talked up to the rear signal brakes seemed to have failed other driver in plaster

The RAIB is carrying out a preliminary examination into a collision at Kitchen Hill, 3 miles north of Penrith station on the West Coast Main Line, 12 January 2014.
