all the best London sims have now been released for me but you have to pay for them im sure some people not myself will lose interest.

Also I think the demos on them need to be a little longer than 5 mins this is a good way of getting people interested in the simulation which also therefore means they will buy a license to obtain the full simulation hope I am making sense this is not a CRITICISM of any kind just a thought from a long term user to SimSig moderators and management

I agree about the demo length - most 'games' in the price range of the latest sims offer a demo of at least 30 minutes, and personally, I feel uncomfortable with parting with what, for me, are not insubstantial sums, without knowing I'm happy with the sim.

Just something which I've thought about, but could be an idea for the team.

What about, rather than having a time limit to the demo version (or lengthen the demo), but to instead put in a cap to the maximum number of trains which can enter the simulation at for example 5?

This would then give enough time to evaluate the sim and play around before having to commit to purchase.

Not sure a train limit would be fair though - The VC Timetable seeds something approaching 20 trains, whereas for a much smaller sim like Royston you'll be lucky to see more than 4 or 5 in the area at a time...

Perhaps the simulation could come with a game saved at (e.g.) noon, with a 20-minute demo. That lets you work out whether or not you can handle the simulation, before committing to buying it. Victoria at midnight or 04:45 isn't really a representation of the normal workload.

Actually getting a 5 minute demo would be brilliant for me but I only ever get a few seconds. Luckily on the Victoria sims I can manage to hit pause before the time runs out and I can have a look around the sim. On Marylebone and West Hampstead the time always ran out before the sim loaded up and I could only stare longingly at the Aylesbury or Cricklewood areas. I went ahead and bought them anyway and will get the Vic sims when my current fiscal impairment gets a bit better.

The demo mode is supposed to be 15 minutes but there is an issue where the timer seems to run faster on some machines than others. It's being looked at.

i agree big time !! they should at least have a free trial period to were other people can play the sim for more than just 5 minutes ! 5 Minutes is no time at all and im sure people would say "why buy a sim when u cant experience it first" ??

why was payware introducted as some prices are a bit steep. yes the demo does end vry quickly and doesn't give the person time to play it before it finishes the demo. would of thought that one of them would of been free.

Because my family do like to eat on occasion, and have a roof over their heads?

As for steep, there is an alternative version of London Victoria you could try. However, it's severely lacking in accuracy and the timetable seems to have significantly fewer trains for some reason. Much cheaper at £32... oh, my mistake, more expensive then. Or you could try the "other" one which typically range from £25-£35 each.

There are ~32 sims that are currently free.

I'm slowly working my way through the payware sims and they are all superb. I am waiting vicariously to get enough time to play the two vics, at the moment. My experience is they are well worth the cash and if you don't want to pay, KX, Bristol and South Humberside and Saltley can all get super intricate

I really don't know why some people are unable to grasp such a simple concept.

Geoff spent three years researching and developing these sims, all in his spare time. Time he could have spent with his family and friends. Don't you think this entitles him to some form of modest remuneration?

As has already been pointed out, other less authentic sims are considerably more expensive than Simsig. Add to that the fact that Geoff develops simulations for Network Rail to train their signallers on, and you've got the most realistic sims on the market - all for considerably less than TRE charges Network Rail!

Sorry to be blunt, but if you can't afford the sims, then it's tough. Just like everything else in life, you'll have to save up for them. In the meantime there are plenty of free sims you can play.

I agree the payware sims are great (the ones i have) i hope in the future that i will purchase the Victoria sims and Marylebone but as i'm on benefits and getting hit with this bedroom tax, fuel prices going up etc it will be a long way off before i can afford even one of them but keep up the good work as a great many of us are thankful for them

With reference to Wells statement if you dont realise how much work goes into a simulation for our enjoyment its like you have to sort out things guess its like making a 25 min cartoon lots of delicate planing.

And as for the other guy you can go into products click on simulation and you get a complete screen layout hope this helps out

And Geoff thanks for your inpout about its meant to be 15 mins I never meant to start any trouble but it shows im not the only person who thinks this is an issue and why cant we be allowed to watch a hosting session without a license as this might make us get a license when we see the sim in full effect and how busy and challenging it can beI am thinking of both Victoria sims as I have seen them in real life not pleasant when it goes up the wall which is most days except sundays

My hat into the ring:-
Trial version for a notional cost (£5?) that allows the sim to run normally, but with saves (TT and sim) disabled.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Hi all, I've recently ventured into the payware sims with Wolves, Cov and New Street as these areas are familiar to me through working at New St. I did have a whole load of paid sims from another supplier but ditched them as they miss out quite a bit on 'feel' and ease of playing, and can be more expensive. One bonus with Simsig is that additional timetables are free, compared with a charge for each one from the other producer. It took me a while to get to grips with the basics of Simsig but with loads of help from the forum I'm getting there. Geoff and the writers/developers have given us a real 'gem' with Simsig and I'm hooked, hoping to add other sims to my collection along the way. I say credit where credit's due and if you want the best, be prepared to fork out for it as your circumstances allow.
Mal.

I timed Birmingham New Street at 2 minutes (real time) on my machine, a Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC with 2.30 gigahertz Intel Core i7-3610QM processor (info courtesy Belarc Advisor).

I would like to see a thirty-minute (sim time) trial set at a TT time when the sim is neither too quiet nor too busy, as Steamer suggested in other words in post #5. By basing the timeout on sim time rather than real time, this will give users who are struggling with large sims a chance to evaluate it at slower than 1:1 speed.

Also I agree that TT and sim saves should be disabled, and only the default TT be allowed to run on the demo sim.

It's already based on Sim time- press pause on start up and the simulation will sit there all day.

Although my trial for New St didn't even last long enough to hit pause!

Which is sadly a bug which still has not been rectified, unless the upcoming loader update has a fix. You'd have thought that the feature used to encourage sales would be a higher priority!
