Another thread from me folks, i'm loving the sim, thank you to the creators and Geoff.

I have entered a possession at Blackfriars (identical to a screen grab that was posted here a few threads back) to replicate the Blackfriars renovation project, I left the entire sim on ARS and I attempted to take control of Blackfriars and E&C manually.

What ensued was chaos.

Due to the slow lines being blocked everything running through the Thameslink was 3/4 minutes down... empty stocks running unto 15 late. Is that prototypical?

Also, the ARS decided to throw the towel in at Herne Hill and couldn't decide on what to route next, so I had stacks of trains there. I do appreciate that in the real world, ARS isn't perfect, so I thought this seemed realistic.

So how can I run this sim properly? Will I have to abandon the idea of having the engineering work at Blackfriars and just keep an eye on the whole sim?

No. When Blackfriars was being remodelled the timetable was adjusted to take into account the lack of capacity.

There is no simple solution, I'm afraid. As you say, ARS is not perfect and therefore cannot be trusted to run the rest of the area, just as in real life.

If you wish to carry on with your Blackfriars scenario, then you are you just going to have to accept that you're going to be very busy.

I'm sure you already have, but just in case, make sure to switch failures and delays off. Also, careful use of auto buttons will help.

As I was the one who posted that screenshot, I can report that it is possible to successfully run that timetable with the engineering works at Blackfriars in place.
However I should probably add that I'm running the timetable with a modified set of defensive driving rules, as the original rules led to some in my opinion rather excessively slow running in low-speed areas, like 5 mph after passing a single yellow in the Thameslink core.

I can't recall any particular ARS problems in the Herne Hill area, apart from it occasionally giving priority to a late-running Thameslink train when I wouldn't have done so and vice versa, however that problem might be exacerbated if as you say all of your Thameslink trains were running late a few minutes at that time.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.
