Quick question about the Motherwell newbie.
With the adjoining Carlisle Sim there was a known issue with the timings over shap etc. (see extract from Carlisle manual below)

'General
Train Dynamics
Trains on gradients sometimes lose or gain too much time'.

Does this new Motherwell sim have a similar problem with the banks over Beatock and Lockerbie or is it now not a problem? Or even a case of Carlisle having the problem still but Motherwell does not?

I'm only vaguely aware of the Carlisle problem now you mention it; was it to do with gradients? All I can say is that Gradients are in the Motherwell profile and I've had no reports from my testers. Whether that's because they thought there was no need (known issue) or was not a problem I don't know.

I'm just playing though Motherwell and have a class 6 going past "Summit" (I'm not particularity geographically knowledgeable of the area but I take it this is the steep point?)

It's gone through at 60MPH and didn't seem to be adversely effected by the gradients, at least not as much as on Carlisle.

Mind, there were no reports about Carlisle before release, as far as I know. Any freight going up the gradients South of Carlisle would run much more slowly than it should, especially for the slower types of train, which makes playing in bad weather or on older time periods difficult if you want to keep things to time.

However, the core code issue may well have been fixed - Carlisle's latest release is over 15 months old now, but all the loader work is newer than that.

And you can now specify a train's weight in terms of "Light", "Normal" or "Heavy", which should allow for a more realistic simulation of train physics as well.

Edit: After playing the first half hour after midnight, a 400 m Class 4 freightliner train slowed down to approximately 38 mph while approaching Summit in the down direction with a diesel loco, respectively 44 mph with an electric loco (Hooray for electric traction :lol:). In both cases, they managed to keep to their booked running time, or perhaps even gain a minute or two. It's admittedly a rather limited sample, but it does look promising.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

The effects of gradients where relaxed generally in the loader fairly recently along with the aforementioned ability to assign relative weights.
