maxand,
I would like to say that I do think this request maybe a case of spoon feeding people to the 'x' extent. One of the things that has always been said and must be realised by any user is that some of the Sims have been around for a long time and therefore have been updated the best way possible. Some other software that is on the market never gets updated in any way and any request for it to be done is met with a steadfast 'NO'. One of the things that would seem logical is that when starting any Sim, is that the user acquaints himself with what is provided in the Sim. The wiki pages go a very long way in doing this but with the best will in the world could not include every small detail. As your previous posts have indicated, when you start a new Sim this is something that you do. Not knowing the area covered by some of the Sims that are available I think it not unreasonable to expect the user to scroll or page through the Sim in order to establish what routes go where etc. otherwise you would be continually pausing the Sim to find out. In doing this the user should on the Peterborough and other paged sims realise what these numbers and letters represent. Each sim has it's own little differences. The sim sig guys I think are doing their best to make updates and make them the same as each other and also make them as realistic as possible. A little bit of self research by the user on this one is not too much to ask I would have thought.

Geoff

Remember that the number keys in a scrolly sim are only to scroll the view L to R in increments, and are completely unrelated to any panel views, paged or scrolly.
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

(makes mental note to write this up in the Wiki).
It's already there! From the Signalling Display page:

Wiki said:
Track is shown as solid grey lines on the screen. The general orientation is left-to-right, top-to-bottom, but complex areas require variations. In any case, the continuation of track is identified by simple letters such as “A” (meaning the track continues at the other “A” elsewhere on the same screen) or alpha-numeric labels such as “A2” or “2A” (meaning the track continues at an “A1” or “1A” label on screen 2, assuming we are currently on screen 1).
I also echo Northroad's comment about spoon-feeding. If you drill everything down in the manual to the nth degree, you end with an absolutely massive manual that no-one can be bothered to plough through.

There are a number of features included in SimSig which are not prototypical - e.g. pausing the sim, speeding up time (to make those wee small hours less boring!,) the Godlike ability to make a train disappear or reduce in length, slowing down time (to make those big or busy sims more manageable,) ARS or auto working (where it does not appear in real life) to aid solo or short handed operation and many others. Why should suggesting hyperlinking breaks in control areas be dismissed out of hand?

I (a fairly experienced user) had a look at Motherwell, an area I know well, yet it still took a while to get my bearings so I can imagine an inexperienced user who has just forked out £25 feeling dismaid.

If we are going to dismiss a simple suggestion like hyperlinking control areas or hotkeys for individual panels then lets consign all these other 'unrealistic' features to Debug mode!

Yes, you're right. Not that well explained IMO but it's there. Wonder why it didn't spring to my attention. Maybe there should have been a note about it in Paged Displays.

I disagree. Some textbooks are a delight to read.

I've tidied the description up a bit and added cross links.

I just searched 'continuation' and up it came.

When using a new sim, I personally use sticky notes placed on the layout to help me identify and locate split lines that are else where until I get used to it.
