There's one thing I've been wondering about for a while, even though I could never be bothered to post about it until now.

When the driver of a delayed train phones in to say he's ready to depart now, two different things happen depending on the state of the signal ahead.
If the signal is on, the driver just phones in normally and the phone keeps ringing until you acknowledge him.
If on the other hand the signal is displaying a proceed aspect, the phone symbol just flashes momentarily, then the driver immediately hangs up and moves off without any further comment.

Is this difference in behaviour intentional, or is it just a long-standing bug?

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

I never took it to be a bug, but just the logic being a bit slow to execute.
Delayed train- ring in
Oh, signal is green- hang up - proceed

I have always found it helpful as it alerts me to the delayed train being on the move again.

Does this still happen? I have just been playing Exeter and every time a train recovers from a delay, the phone flashes momentarily, a note pops up in the message box stating the train has departed x minutes late, the train accelerates for about half-a-second, stops and then a note pops up about the train waiting at a red signal. I no longer get a phone call at all. Is this behaviour correct?

It just occurs to me that I am playing with the bad weather scenario active. Could this be why?

I would assume it depends if they're stopped *at* the signal (ie it's right at the end of the platform and that's where they're stopped), or they're not quite at the signal and have to drive a bit to get up to it. Not sure how well this is modelled, but maybe the Exeter sim models it less well.

to build on this, why does a train delayed in a station ring on the SPT AND Buzz on TRTS. one or the other surely?

Driver rings, platform staff plunge?

having observed delayed trains before, normally the supervisor (or guard) will ring it out when its ready and thats it (unless the signal doesnt clear afterwards of course). It just seems a little silly for both to occur when in reality it wouldn't happen.
