9 posts 		Just a very quick curious query. I have lived near the Three Bridges to Ford Junction route for a number of years and I have never seen a freight train use this route. Is there any reason for this or is it I've just always missed them?!

You'll get the odd engineers train for engineering work but other than that theres no real reason for freight to go down there.

306 posts 		There is no revenue freight received or generated on that route nor is there any need to send any over that route especially with the heavy speed restrictions imposed for freight and engineers trains over Timberley viaduct (unless they been done away with now, will need to check the sectional appendix very shortly when TBASC takes over that line in about 3wks time).

884 posts 		There is an aggregates terminal at Chichester, but all traffic to and from the terminal runs via Southampton en route to Whatley and Merehead quarries.

Danny, being a Northerner in exile down in the South I'm more than aware of where the industrial heartland is! I thought it a fairly reasonable question considering the ports and oil terminals around the south coast and me not being a railway professional.

When looking at the line I had concluded that all that stuff would be further over towards Southampton/Portsmouth, with everything East of there being very pretty beaches and little else! I have an inkling that there are some rail-served locations buried in Kent (apart from the lot on/around the Thames estuary), but those would be a separate concern.
