Just wondering whether the Start page could be a bit clearer as to where users go. Currently the "users" link is the least obvious and smallest link on the page whereas in reality it is probably the most important. Conversely the "go back to homepage" and "forum" links are quite prominent.

This is not a criticism, I'm just wondering how to improve things slightly.

Alright AndyG,

let us all into the secret - what did you do?

AndyG,

Hows about putting the same one on the top of the FAQ page to give it a more corporate look?

Ken

Many thanks - now we are rolling!!

Related to this, I've got a much bigger comment I've been meaning to bring up.

When you come to the SimSig site, there's no real clue to anyone as to what is going on. Looking at it right now, there's a logo, a menu, a list of who's around, a message about "Peterborough Refreshed" and some other news items, but nothing that explains what SimSig is. There really ought to be a big bit in the top middle saying what SimSig is and having a big obvious "new visitors go here for more information" link. At the moment we look much too much like a clique.

One other thing - we ought to have a gallery of screen shots easily reached from the front page.

Perhaps like before we need a higher level home page- it had crossed my mind that there was something missing but was not sure what- I can see that might be it.

How about an abridged extract of the first couple of paragraphs on http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack?

That's the sort of thing. I think you really need the first four paragraphs, or at least the first paragraph plus the first two of "Aims". Let's see:
Welcome to the world of railway signalling! SimSig brings the signal box to your home PC and with it the enjoyment and frustrations of running today's (and some of yesterday's) railways. How often has your train been delayed because of "signal failure" and you've wondered why trains can't be routed around the problem - or why it is even a problem in the first place? You'll soon see exactly why - with SimSig!

SimSig places you in the signaller's seat and lets you control the trains. You will be presented with an environment closely resembling a real signalling control centre, including the screen display and controls. It recreates the signalling as realistically as possible and it is up to you to route the trains to their destination and do your best to keep them on time. You wil have to make the same kind of decisions that real signallers do to keep the railway running as smoothly as possible.

Sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, it is ... until something goes wrong. Can you cope with the everyday challenges of late running trains, random delays, signal and point failures, engineering works, or bad weather?
Done, with a couple of pictures, although I note not without criticism already.

I thing they are fine Geoff, thank you. Just 1 thought (Not a critism), would a seperate page for news be an idea? Just thinking back to the other week when we had about three news items in 3 days.

I can't speak for Caedave, but I thought my contribution might have been labelled constructive comment rather than criticism!
