Ive always been confused by this. But overlooking the P2 system mainly at KX they have the two windows. One shows lateness, the other the signalling diagram. Going on the fact that Pink means non ARS and blue means ARS in Peterborough sim, what do all the other colours mean? For example sometimes they're striped green and brown...

I've wondered that too as a regular user of the P2 screen at KX to get the jump on other commuters!!. Obviously the real box at KX and PBO do not have ARS but I believe the range of colours on the P2 is similar and means similar things, though as you say some are dual coloured. Don't have a photo but it's essentially a feed from the signal box with a display not dissimilar to the late OpenTrainTimes (probably the same feed more or less) that's stuck on the wall in several places around KX (and many other stations - 4 at Stevenage for example). The P2 mapping software shows a simplified track layout with a live feed of train descriptions in the relevant TD berth, as taken from NR live data. The colours P2 uses have no bearing on what ARS state the train is in (especially as neither PBO or KX have ARS in real life!). I believe the colours displayed are all based on the lateness of each train, but I am waiting to be corrected. CCF is a similar tool preferred by Network Rail. Again, this shows a simplified track layout with Train Descriptions shown in the relevant berths. The colours of the descriptions show either the late-ness (as brighter colours) or early-ness (as paler colours) of each train. Log in to reply |

The colours do indeed indicate the lateness of trains. The colours and delay parameters can be changed by the user according to their individual requirements/preference. I haven't used P2 regularly for years as we have the vastly superior CCF, but from memory there are several other customisable options available, such as a different colour for trains which are off route. I believe there is also an option that will indicate whether a delayed train will cause a knock-on delay to it's next working. In this case the train would be depicted in two colours - one colour for the current delay, the other to indicate that it's next working is at risk. A useful feature are the "scrolls", which will generate a colour coded report for each train as it arrives/departs/passes a station/timing point. This enables users to see at a glance the status of trains which are still miles away, which removes the need to go looking for individual trains to check their lateness. Log in to reply |

I had a play with the system last night actually overwatching the Peterborough signalling loss... Didnt realise the stupid levels of customisation you get
