Problems Forwarding Port? 23/03/2014 at 20:36 #57637

Hi guys,

The other day myself and a friend decided to play Simsig Sheffield together, however neither of us could get it to work (we'd glanced over the fact you have to forward ports).

After following instructions, and using http://ping.eu/port-chk/ , the port is still listed as closed. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Well, you must feed your external IP (the 92.16....) to the port-chk website. It can't possibly know what computer is 192.168.1.60 given that there are probably thousands to millions of them at a given moment. Plus, SimSig must be running when you check.

Ive got a similar router to what you have, all the settings are correct.

As Finger says, make sure youre using external IPs (92.16.66.253) rather than the internal IPs (192.168.0.60)

Thank you guys. The port is not listed as open - hopefully tonight I can try hosting and see if it works!

Well if the port is not listed as open, the hosting won't work.

Make sure you have the app running when running the port check using the external IP.

If this doesn't work, check you don't have windows firewall blocking the port.

Belly Busters spot on though expanding on those comments....

1) Make sure you start the sim in server mode.
2) Make sure the sim uses one of the ports you have setup rules for port forwarding on.
3) Make sure your internal IP address is still the same as listed in the port forward rules as it's possible it may change from time to time depending on how your IP addresses are allocated.

Regarding the firewall, whilst Windows does have a firewall built in, be aware that it may turned off if you have other security software installed such as some form of internet security suite which itself contains a firewall (you should only run one software firewall on a PC at any one time otherwise it may get itself all confused and your network may stop working). As a result whichever firewall is active may need additional setup to let the SimSig data through.
